Voodoo in World of Warcraft: Magic and Spiritual Path of the Trolls
In World of Warcraft, voodoo is not only a powerful form of magic but also a deeply spiritual and religious practice that defines the identity of the troll people. Rooted in their worship of powerful spirits known as Loa, voodoo represents the union of faith, magic, and the natural world. Through voodoo, trolls harness the primal forces of life, death, and the spirit world, invoking the power of ancient entities to perform feats that range from healing to raising the dead or transforming enemies into frogs. For the trolls, voodoo is both a way of life and a tool for survival.
At the heart of voodoo is the connection between the trolls and their Loa—spiritual deities that embody the forces of nature. These Loa are powerful, often ancient spirits that grant their followers extraordinary abilities. While the Loa are not as omnipotent as the gods of other cultures, they are considered far more powerful than the elementals and are revered for their ability to guide and empower the trolls. Each Loa represents a specific aspect of nature or existence, and the magic they offer is tied to their domain. For example, some Loa are linked to life and healing, while others are associated with death, destruction, or wisdom.
Through their voodoo magic, trolls can invoke the Loa to gain various powers depending on their domain. For example Hakkar, the bloodthirsty Loa, can empower practitioners with blood magic, enabling them to curse enemies or manipulate blood. Bwonsamdi, the Loa of death, can raise the dead or offer guidance on matters related to the afterlife. Lukou is the Loa of healing and respite, and she grants the ability to heal allies.
The Trolls believe that the Loa are integral to their identity and survival. Temples dedicated to these spirits are scattered throughout their lands, with the Garden of the Loa in Zuldazar being a central spiritual hub. Here, the Loa are worshiped and invoked through rituals and offerings.
Mojo is another mystical force that powers voodoo magic, deeply connected to the spirit world and the natural forces of Azeroth. Trolls harness this essence to enhance their strength, protect allies, and cast powerful spells, including summoning creatures and spirits from other realms. Commonly stored in mojo flasks, tiki totems, and Voodoo Figurines, these vessels help channel its immense power.
Mojo is not just used for beneficial purposes. It also has a darker side, capable of cursing enemies, transforming them into mindless zombies, or even raising the dead. The potency of mojo is such that consuming food tainted with it can turn individuals into mindless creatures, further showcasing its dangerous potential.
In troll society, different types of practitioners wield voodoo for various purposes. Shadow Hunters, Witch Doctors, and Hexers are the primary practitioners. Shadow Hunter are former headhunters that are deeply connected to the spirits and the Loa. They serve as both fighters and spiritual leaders. Shadow hunters are skilled in using voodoo magic for both healing and combat, calling upon their Loa to empower them in battle or to heal their allies. They are often tasked with hunting down dangerous threats to their people, using their spiritual gifts to combat darkness, curse enemies, and even commune with the spirits of the dead.
Witch Doctors are versatile voodoo practitioners who blend magic with medicine. They are revered for their ability to raise the dead, summon spirits, and control the forces of nature. Witch doctors act as healers, using their magic to mend wounds and cure ailments, but they can also curse enemies and summon powerful creatures to fight on their behalf. They are deeply spiritual, often serving as guides and spiritual advisors to their communities.
Hexers are specialists in dark magic and curses. They use voodoo to weaken or control their enemies, often turning foes into helpless creatures or debilitating them with powerful hexes. Unlike Shadow Hunters and Witch Doctors, Hexers primarily focus on manipulating their enemies, making them formidable opponents.

I'm listening to Shadow Hunter again and Maul remembers reading about the Talzin (the weird invisible-in-the-force worm thingo) on an obscure holonet site.
I have to wonder if maul is a supermassive troll on socials. I mean Plagueis mentions he has fuck all to do when not tasked with a mission or training.
The only thing more terrifying than Maul is the combined powers of his social media footprint and his search history.

Garnet Schattenjager the Last Shadow Hunter Sin of Wrath
"WRATH! Sing Meloetta, sing us the song of the Wrath of Garnet Schattenjager, the last child of the Shadow Hunters!"
Garnet Schattenjager was born to a poor family with a Mother, Father, Older Sister, and a Younger Brother a few centuries after the age of the Shadow Hunters. Her Father was forced to hold contraband for a corrupt sheriff and his guardsmen who were bribed to protect a group of local gangsters, the illegal material took up too much space which could have been used for farming supplies, so their productivity suffered as a result and the Sheriff would be stingy with his payment because they knew he couldn't go to anyone with the evidence without either incriminating himself. In order to try to help his family he attempted to secretly get in contact with a rival gang and sell them the incriminating evidence so they could get out under the Sheriff's thumbs and then get protection from the other gang, what he didn't know was that the Gang who controlled his town had placed a Mole in the rival gang, and said Mole found out about her Father's betrayal, then reported it back to his boss.
The next day Garnet's older sister had been bullying her younger brother and threw his favorite toy into the forest. While Garnet was searching for her brother's toy, the Sheriff and 4 guards showed up at the door to kill her father and leave no witnesses. Garnet had heard the screaming and wanted to run back save them but her survival instincts told her to run the other way and hide in the forest. The Guards quickly realized there was one loose end not accounted for and began to search for Garnet, but somehow Garnet managed to find her way to the old Shadow Hunters hideout, the hiding place of her own ancestors without even realizing and laid low there for a few days scared wondering what happened to her family. The guards eventually found their way to the ruins and began surrounding it to try to root out Garnet while she clung tightly to her brother's toy and prayed for any kind of help...then one of the guards started to get a rise out of Garnet boasting about what he did to her family and something snapped in the young Rockruff as she felt the Strength of over 100 Angry Lycanrocs well up within her!
Garnet had blacked not used to experiencing that kind of rage in her life, it had blinded her and she could not process what had happened until after it was done. When she woke up all of the Guards that had been hunting her were all dead and she didn't know how, but she was soaked with blood, and she could taste it on her teeth. Part of her was afraid of what she had done, but then she looked over the body of the guard and her trembling stopped as she no longer felt guilt, only a determined anger. She tried a few times to go back home and finish off the Sheriff but she wasn't sure how she killed the Guards the first time and didn't understand her power so she decided to cross the forest and find another town where she would be safe for a while and could practice. It was a long and lonely journey but she never truly felt alone, because a pack of the ghosts of her vengeful ancestors was constantly at her back.
Garnet arrived at a new town living on the street and picking fights with anyone she could to survive and train her powers while learning how to temper it and control the flood of Rage, she did not want to kill a poor man fighting with her for food but she would kill a mugger threatening pokemon who had nothing to give. Pokemon started to recognize Garnet's unnatural Strength and form around her for protection, she acted as the Alpha of her own little pack of outcasts and misfits, some of them taught her how to actually fight with skill rather than just brute force. One day a business Pokemon approached her and her pack with food and money offering them this and more if Garnet would fight for him in arranged underground pitfights. Garnet agreed seeing this as a means to an end, but the more she competed and fought the more she began to take a liking to the thrill of battle. Being in the ring against a rival, the competition of one's will to survive till the very end against the other, to push each other to see how far they would go, it felt like there was a fire in her heart coming out and surrounding her in a bright glow. She would take hits just to get herself hyped up and then hit back twice as hard, and thanks to her constant training and fighting she evolved into a Midnight Lycanroc just as she was barely even a teenager.
Over the years she kept fighting, kept winning, and learned to harness her baneful wrath and overwhelming strength. She had moved up ranks going from underground events to public arenas becoming something of a celebrity! Though she is a savant at beating other pokemon in the ring she was not good at much else having spent years only fighting and not receiving a proper education, and her manager counted on this to make sure she belonged to him. At 18 years old she decided she was done training and wanted to go back home but her manager forbid her from leaving and told her if she leaves now he would take everything away from her friends she had been supporting, so Garnet put him through a wall and then led her friends away with her through the forest.
When she arrived back in her old town the Sheriff and Guards did not recognize her from her face for she was no longer the small scared little pup they had once known, but they could feel something was off about her by the wild look in her big red eyes. The Sheriff approached her looking to try to assert himself before this stranger, but then she began to list the names of her family members and his face turned white as he realized who she was. Garnet Schattenjager had come home. The Sheriff tried to deal with her right there but for all his self aggrandized importance he was just a disappointment to Garnet now. The Guards called everyone they could get even members of the gang, but she fought like a one wolf army destroying every last enemy that came to face her. Every corrupt guard and gangster, till eventually finding Gangster boss and hanging him in the middle of the town. Garnet allowed her friends to take over the town, this would be their home now but it could no longer be hers, it hadn't been home to her for a long time and she could no longer see it that way. Garnet moved on following the howl of the wind through the Trees looking for the Pack that called to her way back when she was a pup. She eventually joined up with the Deadly Sins becoming the Sin of Wrath looking for stronger battles. The Sword Garnet is carrying here is called Skofnung, a legendary sword renowned for supernatural sharpness and hardness, that is imbued with the spirits of a King's twelve faithful berserker bodyguards. Not featured in this picture she also carries 2 Hand axes and a pair of Meteor Hammers
