Our beloved band director was absent today.
Why, you ask? Apparently, a large FedEx truck obstructed his path, and he was unable to make it to school, despite the fact that our spring concert is tomorrow. His presence was not missed.

Shabalov once took a clarinet player's clarinet out of his hands and mimicked cracking it against his thigh, in an imitation of "the Olivia trick". This demonstration was followed by a recommendation that said clarinet player perform the trick at the end of a piece--most likely Birdland--at the concert.
He's also suggested that the resident saxophone players smash their instruments on stage as a finale.
Today in class the principal walked into class to talk to Shabalov. He handed him a paper and started talking about two students in the class. The only reason we could hear their whispers was because, for the first time this entire year, our band class was DEAD SILENT. YOU COULD HEAR A PIN DROP. Shabalov obviously noticed us staring at them in silence so he was like "oh they're finally quiet I hope you're enjoying the show!", spread his arms out in a rather maniacal fashion, and then left cause he didn't want us to hear anymore. ):
