Sherlock asking John if Ian is “your best mate in the whole world” is made both hilarious and kind of sad by the fact that he didn’t realise they were best friends until the previous episode. He’s jealous, yes, but it also kind of sounds like he’s trying to ascertain how much the term ‘best mate’ actually means to John. John responds “how mature. I know his name, so we’re best mates.” Sherlock asks “you tell me,” which I thought was rhetorical, but maybe not.

It’s not an accident when John calls Abe Slaney ‘Mr. Slaney’, and Sherlock is unsurprised by it, implying that they planned what he’d say on the way up. The mental image of Sherlock trying to manoeuvre himself into the trolley whilst they argue about what to say is so glorious to me.

Strategically speaking, it would have made more sense for Abe Slaney to shoot Sherlock. He had the gun! But he shot John. He wasn’t even trying to just survive: there was no benefit to shooting the unarmed man trying to diffuse the situation. He wanted to hurt Sherlock, and he judged that the best way to do that was to kill John, a decision which saved Sherlock’s life, as it’s mentioned earlier in the case that Sherlock wasn’t wearing a bulletproof vest. Caring about John saved his life.

The room in which John gets shot is called The Martyr :)

Sherlock didn’t know that John had important information. He heard his dying best friend repeating his name over and over. Spoilers for 3GAR3 but THE PARALLEL THERE IS INSANE.

He apologises to John as he puts the gun down to be by his side as he dies. He thought that John was trying to sacrifice his last moments with Sherlock for the case and he chose John, sacrificing his only leverage over Slaney.

He cALLS HIM JOHN FIVE TIMES

Not really something I noticed but it slipped in. Slaney told him to get on the floor. Do you think he lay down next to John? Do you think he lay facing away from John and if asked, he’d say it was to keep his eye on Slaney, but in reality, it was so John wouldn’t have to see him giving up?

You can actually HEAR the glass move and crunch on the floor as Sherlock gets to his feet. BROKEN GLASS. Need to see more ‘they’re BOTH all bandaged up after DANC’ rep right now guys (as always, I have a fic for that)

“Tell her I love her” spoilers for EMPT but AGAIN I PRESENT MY ‘Sherlock told Mariana he loved John in EMPT2 to get her to leave because that was the most angry he’d been since he met his friends, but it backfired because Mariana cares about him’ THEORY

I am such a nosy bitch and Joel Emery has stated that “I meant what I said - I’m going to kill him” was in reference to a cut line. I WILL DO ANYTHING TO KNOW WHAT THAT CUT LINE WAS. Also, the acting here is fucking incredible.
