Dial the Gate posted an interview on Friday in which Flanigan said Martin Gero invited him to visit the new SG writers' room this Wednesday. There are NDAs involved, but he made it pretty clear that he'd make himself available to play Sheppard again. Even as a regular, though I seriously doubt that's what Gero has in mind.

Exciting stuff for SGA fans, but probably nothing terribly surprising for most.

The new “Stargate” TV series has been axed at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively.

The show was first announced with a series order in November 2025. It hailed from writer, executive producer, and showrunner Martin Gero, who was a writer on “Stargate SG-1” and “Stargate: Atlantis” early in his career.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase.

On Wednesday, Amazon MGM Studios announced that it has given the green light to an original new Stargate series led by Martin Gero. The former screenwriter and co-executive producer of Stargate: Atlantis is the creator and executive producer for the new series, which will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Gero shared his gratitude to Amazon MGM Studios for having "entrusted" him with the task of "guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase."

... "For those who've kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith — this one's for you," he added. "And for those that are new to our world — I promise you're in for something extraordinary."

... He continued, "In partnership with our extraordinary creative team of Martin, Tory, and Joby, we're honored to open this next gate to bring a visionary new chapter of this beloved franchise to our global Prime Video audience, one that honors the series' rich legacy while propelling it into an ambitious and emotionally resonant future."

Production details and casting for the new series will be announced at a later date.
