i honestly don't know how this being an SG universe factors into the scene other than some minor details, but for the sake of consistency of this belonging to an SG AU I will tag it as such.

"Go talk to them."
"What?" Slingshot frowned at the sudden comment by his former commander - and brother, as much as he was still not used to the fact.
Silverbolt vaguely gestured towards the trio of jets - the rest of his family, still huddled together and talking with each other - and continued. "We've had this conversation before, go talk to them."
"I..." With memories of their last conversations flashing in his processor, Slingshot suddenly felt unsure. They didn't leave on good terms after all, what if him showing up again just made things worse?
Slingshot took a few steps back, getting ready to turn around at any moment.
In response, Silverbolt gave out a light disapproving sigh. "You told me you missed them."
And then proceeded to pick him up.
"Wait, what are you-"
Slingshot hadn't finished his sentence before both his pedes left the ground and he started flailing about in shock.
"Let- me-"
Then he felt himself flying through the air. In root mode.
"GOOOOOOOOOOO-"
And crashed into the ground right in front of his brothers whom he had not talked to in a long time. Falling face-first onto the floor.
"Bolt, what the..." Slingshot sat up while rubbing his faceplates in stunned embarrassment, still not processing that the always loyal, hardworking and most importantly serious Silverbolt threw him across the room.
"SLINGSHOT!" Fireflight immediately knelt down and wrapped his arms around Slingshot, wings fluttering in excitement, nearly knocking him over. Slingshot was extremely confused by his enthusiasm - their last encounter ended in a shouting match after all. But before he could process that he was nearly knocked over again.
"DUDE! DUDE!" That lively and energetic voice - one that hasn't sounded that happy for a long time - was unmistakably Air Raid's. "HOLY SHIT YOU'RE ALIVE I AM SO GLAD!"
Still stunned at the fact that the two were happy at his presence, Slingshot looked towards Skydive, who was still standing to the side, and looked just as shocked as he was. Slingshot's ember still hummed nervously, not sure how the former felt about him after accusing him of only caring for himself despite everything he did to keep them safe.
Then Skydive chuckled, proceeded to tackle the three of them, and all four jets crashed onto a ground in a cuddle pile.
Either this is some bizarre dream, they were also just as much in shock as he is, or... his brothers didn't hate him as much as he thought?
They've laid there for a while, just taking in the fact that they're back together.
Beyond the Imperium's ever watchful eye, beyond their guardian's critical gaze, beyond the war that could take their lives in any second. Just a group of mechs, born bound to each other's embers, basking in the relief of reunion.
"Gosh, where have you been?
"Well..." The brief shock and joy gave way to the reality that Slingshot needed to explain himself and what happened in the interim when they were separated, which he was admittedly not good at.
Good thing there's someone else who's better at that than him.
Slingshot sat up and looked back at the other side of the room in search of the mech who can cover the whole story better than himself.
Silverbolt was nowhere to be seen.
Writer's notes & more context
basically, Silverbolt and Slingshot were separated from the rest of the Aerialbots a while ago and did not leave on great terms with them. However Slingshot does miss them a lot. And then started chickening out when he actually sees them again. Silverbolt decides to speed up the process by just yeeting Slingshot across the room.
the other Aerialbots have been on Earth for a while and picked up some vocabulary from human allies, hence earth swear words.
I don't know if this is fully in character but to be fair 1. go watch Silverbolt in The Ultimate Weapon he's very energetic in there for some reason and never again and I'm channeling that energy 2. he's been through a major life crisis he deserves to do something a little unhinged as a treat 3. IT'S REALLY FUNNY OK
Bolty wants the family to reunite first. He doesn't want to go talk to them just yet. Despite him pushing Slingshot to talk to the rest of the flyboys, he still doesn't see himself as one of them.
Slingshot sees himself as the family disappointment and has a rocky relationship with the other three, but at the end of the day they still care about each other and now they had all defected and are in a much more healthier environment and can start working on their feelings towards each other.
thought of doing some intros for the components of the fragmentation AUs but the baseline ones are pretty close to their canon description so im shifting gears to the sg one
introducing the SG Aerialbots of the Fragmentation AU! this SG runs on 'pretty much opposite of baseline' and thinking about some of them make me snicker just by how weird they are.
sg silverbolt: treacherous for funsies. sabotages and even attempted to kill the other combiners in the base just because he finds it fun and likes the challenge. tried shooting defensor once and got locked in a jar for weeks. dunno if he has reached starscream level of comically absurd treachery, but he's at the very least getting there. pretty much lives in the brig/prison of the base because he is that big of a nuisance.
sg skydive: the only reason he would ever pick up a book is to throw it at someone. has no patience to try to plan out his actions and usually brute forces his way through every problem and battle even when it results in a lot of mechs getting hurt. unironically thinks that his usual tactics are pretty good even when it usually doesn't work. everyone else sees him as an idiot. he has no self awareness.
sg air raid: a coward that needs to be dragged to duty due to his strong fear of death. fights only because he is told to and is extremely stressed the whole time. when not on duty he hides inside his room, and considering how he was maimed or got caught in the crossfire of several fights within the base, his fear is not exactly unfounded.
sg slingshot: somewhat of a suck up people(?) pleaser, but considering the characters that are the sg autobots, he's doing so out of a strong sense of self preservation and ensuring that he himself is at least useful enough to not be scrapped given how unhinged some of his compatriots are. tries to convince his brothers to not do stupid things that might get them punished. has not succeeded once.
sg fireflight: a normal guy. so normal that he's just boring. treats the war with the same energy as the average person on a nine to five retail shift. has not reached baseline dead end's level of nihilistic apathy but generally does not care much about the war or anything happening around him. he's just going through the motions of your average war crimes.
i have a '9-5 retail worker energy' sg fireflight and a 'depressed maladaptive daydreamer' sg fireflight, but may i suggest another sg fireflight variant that's basically pyro from tf2. so detached from reality he's not aware of the war crimes he's committing.

With the operations on Earth coming to a halt and neither side receiving orders, everyone had a lot more spare time on their hands.
And with Fireflight's defection more or less confirmed, his friend was committed to getting him out of his temporary room to all the spots with his favorite sceneries.
He didn't expect was to be called late into the night and get dragged to the Venator's observation deck, though. But when Dead End knocked on his door with his field radiating with excitement, Fireflight just let himself be dragged through the ship's corridors and into the chamber that gave a panoramic view of the skies.
The sky tonight was clear, with a tapestry of stars decorating the darkened heavens.
It reminded him of...
His home used to have a very beautiful view of the starry sky.
Back when they were young, he and his brothers used to stay up late and stargaze together through the windows.
They weren't supposed to be up so late, but Slings had a rebellious ember and talked the rest of them into his little late night escapades. The little rushes of excitement when they narrowly avoid being caught awake were some of the fondest memories in his life. Even when they wake up in the morning more tired than they should be.
Coolant started flooding Fireflight's vision without warning.
"Fireflight? Are... you okay?"
"I... it's just..." Fireflight paused, mind scrambling to find the right words.
The stars look familiar but nothing else is.
He misses his home before the Imperium burnt it to cinders.
He misses his brothers before they fell apart.
He misses the time when they were all happy.
"Fireflight?"
Fireflight tried to muster a response, but his voicebox seemed to seize up as usual as his mind spiralled back into the storm of memories.
"It's okay if you want to leave."
The jet shook his head as hard as he could. He doesn't want to ruin this moment his friend wanted to share with him.
Dead End didn't seem to know what exactly his friend was thinking, but knew he felt upset regardless. He took Fireflight's trembling hand in his own, and gently squeezed it, gentleness and comfort pulsing from his field.
No asking for further elaboration. No demands for him to stop crying and get it together. No forced rubs on the back or hugs he didn't ask for. Just quietly standing aside him.
Fireflight stayed at the deck and cried for a long while before calming down and feeling a bit better from being allowed to cry.
"Feeling a bit better?"
Fireflight nodded quietly.
"Do you want to go?"
He shook his head. He still wants to look at the stars a little longer.
Something Dead End always said is to appreciate beautiful things in life, no matter how small.
And he can't always stay stuck in his past regrets.
Regardless of what was lost, the stars tonight were beautiful.
Fireflight should still try to appreciate this view when it's around.
Notes:
these two, at this point of the story, are friends all things considered. the dynamics of 'guy who sees no joy in the real world and escapes into his head' and 'guy who has gone through shit but continues to keep on living and appreciating the little joys' is so nice to think about.
