OCās + Garak and Bashir from āCollisionsā Series part II, 'Impactā by Sfumatosoup
(Iām amused by the unintentional, slightly Brady Bunch thing going on hereā¦)
hey @sfumatosoups!! i tried to reply back but mobile kept deleting everything š
thanks for the welcome! (and cute icon!!)
when i said ableism, i was talking about ableism towards mentally ill people more than physically disabled people. all mentally ill people, or mentally ill coded people in the show are either villains (lots of the S1 single episode adversaries, plus ed and oswald are both pretty heavily autistic-coded) or caricatures (the patients in arkham), both of which support stereotypes that mentally ill people are dangerous/subhuman/incapable of rationality. and those kinds of assumptions oppress neurodivergent people in the real world by dehumanizing them and revoking their agency.
the homophobia issue has Much longer answerāi was actually hoping to make a big post about it soonābut the tl;dr version is that all of the lgbtq characters, canon and coded, are villains who suffer. oswald is bullied and then suffers a nightmare scenario for a gay person (that a lot of lgbtq people watching that arc have probably lived thru) when heās outed, mocked, has to beg for his friends not to be disgusted by him, tortured, and nearly killed. edward is built up to have his redeeming trait be his love for/kindness toward/faith in oswald, and acts totally ooc to hurt him. babs and tabs are sexualized/fetishized, and then their relationship falls apart. rene montoya āāāinterferesāāā with jim/babs (even though sheās right) and gets written off the show. etc etc. and even if they didnāt all suffer in a way tied to their sexualities, theyāre all still antagonists. and let me say that i Adore villain characters, especially when theyāre queercoded. i relate to them, i have affection for them, i find them incredibly intriguing, and i love watching them fight for power and get revenge. but iām not the only person watching the showākids are watching gotham and seeing queerness/gender nonconformity conflated with evil, and homophobic adults are watching it and seeing their beliefs confirmed.
representation is great, but only when itās handled responsiblyāy'know what iām saying?
sfumatosoups replied to your post: headcanoning/writing/drawing gay characters as...
I agree, but does maintaining this respectful canon compliance also mean gender swap is a problem? Why or why not?
im cis so i cant answer this as well as someone who's trans might but its my understanding that gender swaps are transphobic bc it implies that there are only 2 genders and that being cis is the only option and changing a characters gender but keeping them attracted to the same gender (ie. making a cis gay man into a cis straight woman) is also homophobic because you're changing a canon sexuality. again, thats just my understanding of it and i could be wrong but i know a lot of people have problems with gender swaps/cis swaps. hope that helps!
So I had a lovely drawing day with @sfumatosoups and she asked for "soft Aziraphale with wings and a belly button". Hope this hits the spot, beeb šā¤ļøšā¤ļøš

The Birth of Sisterhood
Okay, so I want to tell you all the story how me and one of my best friends met.
This fucker right here:
this beautiful creature, @sfumatosoups, is my sister from another mister. We share the same name and ever since the day we met it felt like we had known each other forever. Weāve had a lot of fun together, many adventures, and have grown very close. (not many pictures though, because she doesnāt like to be photographed much and I respect that).
And we owe our entire friendship to a giant pile of hobo shit.
Allow me to explain.
Picture the most cube-farmy, miserable office type work place. Now picture it at six thirty in the morning, full of bleary-eyed, miserable people having to show up to do a thankless job because everyone who uses your services thinks youāre a computer. This is where she and I worked for almost a year alongside each other without ever having met because this place employed somewhere around 800 people at a time and itās impossible to know all your coworkers.
A large portion of us computer monkeys would park in the mall next door to our office for a discounted fee. To get to the office from the parking lot one would have to walk through a mostly abandoned mall and then over a skywalk bridge that connected to our office. And if you worked in the morning you got used to the sound of silence and sight of empty stores and even emptier abandoned shop stalls. It wasnāt too out of the ordinary to see homeless people wandering around there in the morning, junkies asking for change, or police officers patrolling to shoo them out. And youād see the occasional cockroach, but thatās beside the point.
The morning we met was just like any other. We both drove to work, hating our existence in our godforsaken workplace, and just happened to meet as we were walking into the mall. We were greeted by a mall cop who was standing outside the entrance to the mall, smiling cheerily at us. This wasnāt an uncommon occurrence and would probably have been forgotten about if it werenāt for what greeted us next.
As we opened the door to the mall, a great, wafting wave of ungodly odor assaulted our nostrils. We both stopped a moment to gag and we turned to each other and asked each other ādear god, what is that stench?ā
I was the one to see it first. The cause of the stench.
In a vestibule that led to a staff stairway, just off the entrance of the mall, was a splattering of shit.
Not dainty coil of polite poo.
Oh no.
This was a mural of shit. And whoever painted it did so with gusto.
And then, as the saying goes: āAs Aphrodite sprung from the seafoam, so my sister sprung from hobo poo.ā
Or something like that.
LOOK AT WHAT MY AMAZING BESTIE @sfumatosoups MADE FOR ME!!!! LOOK AT THIS BRILLIANCE!!!! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH AND I LOVE HER SO MUCH THANK YOU BEEB!!!!Ā

Summary:Ā Julian is in an awkward situation with an amorous queen on an odd planet he and Garak have accidentally been 'wormholed' to, and so he fabricates a relationship between them to save face with the queen which results in an argument and...feelings surface.
