General Callbacks

Every time someone says:

“The wraith,” moan like a ghost (“oooooo”)

“Pekka Rollins,” shake fist and shout “Rollliiiinnnns!”

“Reward,” or otherwise mentions the reward money, shake bag of money and shout “30 million Kruge!”

“No mourners; no funerals,” drink a toast

“Dirty hands,” pretend to scrub your hands like Lady Macbeth and shout, “Out damned spot!” 

“Ice Court,” sing “ice, ice baby”

A reference to The Grisha Trilogy shout, “Sankta Alina!” 

“The Deal is the Deal,” shake someone’s hand. If you’re reading alone, shake the clapper hands like you’re giving them a handshake. 

A reference to demolitions shout, “BOOM!”

A reference to slight of hand or misdirection, make noise w/clapper hands.

A Suli proverb, shout, “Thse are wiise words; enterprising men quote ‘em.” 

“Jurda Parem,” or takes the drug, eat a pixie stick.

A reference or craving for something sweet, eat a toffee (like Nina!).

When the POV Switches To

Kaz: Put on pair of gloves.

Inej: Stand up & throw arms up like you’re sticking a landing.

Nina: Yell, “witch!”

Matthias: Howl like a wolf.

Jesper: Throw a pair of dice.

Whenever the odds are not in your favor

Shout, “We are outgunned! Outmanned!” For example on:

Pg 25 when Geels says “there are two guards with city-issue rifles pointed at you”

Pg 141 “The schooner exploded, knocking Inej off her feet and showering the docks in flame.” 

Pg 244 “We’re under attack.”

Pg 293 “I think they ran the incinerator this afternoon.”

Whenever the sexual tension is JUST. TOO. MUCH.

Got it? Now we’re ready for the one-offs

Pg 126: Pantomime the various methods of murder during the “What’s the easiest way to steal a man’s wallet” exchange. Please don’t kill anyone.

Pg 135: “The heart is an arrow. It demands aim to land true.” Gently toss one of the unopened pixie sticks like it’s an arrow at someone you love (or a picture of someone you love). 

Pg 136: During Inej’s father’s flower speech, sing or play on itunes “My Love is All I Have to Give” by the Backstreet Boys.

Pg 154: When Kaz boards the ship, break the tension a bit and shout, “We’re on a boat!” 

Pg 179–middle of 181 While: Kaz works out the plan, play or sing the Mission Impossible theme song

Pg 181: “I’m going to get Wylan’s ghost to teach my ghost how to play the flute just so that I can annoy the hell out of your ghost.” play kazoo (if you’re feeling musical, bring it out again whenever there’s mention of Wylan playing the flute). 

Pg 189: “Drinking song. Something rowdy, please.” Sing “What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor” (preferably as off-key as Nina.)

Pg 219–222: While Kaz outlines the plan, sing or play the Mission Impossible theme song

Pg 274: put on a plague mask or sick mask for the plague ship scene

Throughout Part Five, The Ice Does Not Forgive, use a bell to ring out the chime count at the beginning of each chapter.

Pg 311: Use a fan to cool yourself down while Inej makes her climb. Shoot water guns when rain begins. Cheer for her at the top and dry the ugly, ugly tears you’re crying  for how proud you are of her. 

Pg 355: “Six people, but a thousand ways this insane plan could go wrong.” shout out a silly way it could. (eg ghosts, dwarves, sentient cheese graters, existential crisis)

Gasp at the ending and shout out a final, “No Mourners! No Funerals!” to wish the Crows luck in Crooked Kingdom. Finish your drink too—you probably need it.
