activating helly is literally the dumbest thing lumon ever did like. give your leader-in-waiting access to the person she was as a teenager. let her observe a non-cult-conditioned version of herself voice every ounce of doubt and disgust she's ever felt towards her dad's company but had to smoothen and bury and deny. let her impersonate that secret self around people who met her as the person her family beat out of her and drink their jokes and acceptance and love in. what's the worst that could happen?????

What part of herself, her identity, did she have to destroy to seal the deal with Lumon? Was it maybe something simple, like a gift from her mother? And after that, to give up her inventions? Watching her revolutionary work be stolen from her for a man to be credited instead? Then landing a job and barely being respected throughout until they fire her- It's no wonder she finally snapped.
