songs you most closely associate with summer? (since it is almost june aka high as hope time which is an album you own as far as i'm concerned)
honoured that you think of me this way ♡ I'll go chronologically! Spring ends with South London Forever and Summer starts with: Big God, 400 Lux, Every Single Night by Fiona Apple Start/mid (or my birthday era): The Love Club and still sane by Lorde, yoyok, Outdoor Pool by MP, Dancing Queen by ABBA Peak Summer: June, Hunger, Cruel Summer, Paper Bag, Mary's Song, The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, The Louvre, Call Me Maybe, Dancing in the Dark, Hits Different, American Teenager
humid>hot!summer: I'm on Fire, Chinatown ft bruce, eat your young, August, Boyish by Japanese Breakfast, August, Hard Feelings/Loveless, NFR
Summer always always ends with Sun Bleached Files & most importantly with The Bomb and Free.
this is very much a circle of rambling in each other's inboxes but i feel like what's holding taylor back from being placed alongside the greats is simultaneously a big part of her appeal in the streaming climate. she's not picky about the songs she releases nor burdened by her discography meeting a certain standard. she'll drop a fun song, and i love her for it! but i also have a slight hunch that there isn't a song she's written in the past 3 years that she hasn't released. that constant stream of content keeps her in the conversation but it also means putting out less refined work. and it reaches this conflicting point where you naturally want an artist you love to have fun and not feel trapped in their own creation but also to put out their best. now, i don't have any sort of conclusion here but i would love to have your insight on the topic.
I do partially agree with this, however, we ultimately do not know how much actually ends up on the cutting room floor (after all, Taylor works insanely and impressively fast!) + most of what she puts out is genuinely good, because SHE is that good. That said, I totally see your point and you know that I am also caught between wanting her to be more concise with her work and really selective, put also really loving a lot of the content. And I think it's interesting to look at how this lines up with the rise of streaming platforms because that format obviously makes it easier to simply put out content. Freeing herself from her own release cycle was ultimately one of the best things that happened to her creatively, buuuuut there is a part of me that would be interested to see what she would come up with if she sat with an idea and a concept for a longer time again.
3 and 16 for the album asks ❤
3...I consider a hidden gem— When the Idler Wheel… by Fiona Apple which is like my favourite album and it isn’t talked about enough <3 Outshines fetch the bolt cutters by a margin. (it was hard of me to answer this question i don’t believe i listen to really underground music)
16...I think is lyrically flawless— Blue by Joni Mitchell comes to mind, Folklore also deserves all the appraisal it gets and When the Idler Wheel… is definitely flawless imo (if you have any recs for this category, i’d love to hear)
🐌
i have 81 playlists on spotify! which is surprisingly low to me. Also recently, midnights surpassed puberty 2 by mitski as my second most streamed album which is wildddd.

which stories from the o. henry collection were standouts for you!! (personally, fish stories and apples have been haunting me)
OBSESSED with the fact that you read it too!!!! I got so excited when I saw this ask hehe and I also really liked these two, Apples especially (it's probably my second favorite after Warp and Weft and followed by Wolves of Circassia)! I also was really moved by Seams (both because of the way it handles grief and because I live in fear something significant in the world is suddenly gonna change and it will only be new to me) and Where They Always Meet (because of how... Loving it was). Stories I unfortunately did not really connect with (despite the level of craftsmanship) were Lemonade (because. Well.) and Dengue Boy. I would still recommend the collection to everybody simply because of the diversity of the stories and the way they shared empathy and understanding of the world.
what was your favorite glastonbury set? also hope you're feeling well and taking care of yourself <3
This is personal bias factoring in because I, too, have been lucky enough to scream "I was far too scared to hit him, but I would hit him in a heartbeat now" with a crowd of people, but it has to be Sam playing Seventeen Going Under. It is such a quintessentially british song, and to hear thousands of people sing along to it is breathtaking. And you can tell how much it means to Sam, too. I cried the first time I watched the video.
Generally speaking, what I look for in a Glasto video is the crowd absolutely screaming their lungs out, so any Killers performance through the years is a favorite, as is Lizzo playing "Juice", and Jack White playing "Seven Nation Army". I also tear up thinking about Paul's set this year for obvious reasons.
