But… his features had loosened, the frown had smoothed out. Now that his brows weren’t towering over his eyes, Byleth could appreciate the depth of his gaze, green as coniferous forests, sharp and cold as pine needles; he was getting so close that she could spot some sprouts of pale green in his irises — the small portion left free from his pupils, which were now staring into hers.

His breath was warm on her skin, Lemon Scented Twinings and licorice; Byleth could almost taste it on her tongue already, to wash away the blood. But he stopped. He stopped a few inches from her, his mouth half-open, and his grip on her hand tightened.
