So, yesterday, i was taking a biology test, and there was this question. It went something along the lines of "in mice, the dominant allele if for yellow fur. However, if a mouse has two dominant Yellow alleles, it will die as a foetus. Given two yellow furred parents, what is the chance that a living mouse will have yellow fur."
The idea is that you are meant to assume that both parents didn't die as foetuses, so they must be heterozygous, and then you draw a punnet square, and you cross out the YY case, because the mouse is dead, and yo get 2/3.
But that isn't mathematically rigorous. Do you mean to say that mouse is born alive, what is the probability it has yellow fur. or are you asking me the chance that the mouse is born alive and has yellow fur. because those are different things.
I can accept this kind of shenaniganry in English, or even RS, but the sciences should be logical and structured. are we working with a given b, or a and b given c?
The take away here is that set notation should be taught to kids.

My class is learning Set Theory in math. I wonder when we'll get to Horus Theory....

Ooo that's cool!

I created this character on a whim one day when I was particularly sick of studying sets lol. I doodled myself threatening a little character with a Venn diagram head and thought it would be funny to post it on tumblr. Then as I was tagging it I thought, why not tag this as OC. Now he's my newest blorbo and I can't stop drawing him hELP-
His backstory that I totally didn't come up with just now is that he was raised in an orphanage and left once he got into college. He has no idea where he comes from and frankly isn't ready to open that can of worms just yet. Currently, he's working as an accountant and draws webcomics on the side. He doesn't have many friends but he's so devoted to the ones he does have, partially out of a fear of abandonment because he was so lonely as a child.
he’s an official character now
He’s gotten his doodle y’all he’s had his rite of passage
