I think it can depend on the type of blade too. I was taught away from myself, but my mom does it towards herself all the time, so who knows?

lol I dut away but peel towards. But I'm a southpaw so I do everything weird
LOL. As if this is my take away from this clip but seriously though. If you catch your thumb with that blade it’s going to hurt. That’s why you peel away from yourself, even with a peeler. I mean some people (like me) like to live on the edge and peel towards ourselves but I’m pretty sure away is safer... even if towards feels like it gives you more control.
It may be a reach but I’m going to say that was intentional. Like @weasllys pointed out, Sana’s mum was cutting away from herself and she laughed when Sana was all ‘my husband will cook’. Then we have Sana’s crush, this older guy that looks so confident in the kitchen. So confident he feels the need to explain to Sana how to best peel carrots, like it’s the most fucking smooth thing in the world. But he’s the one fucking doing it wrong and the most dangerous way.
