Ok and here we go, the Before, and the Afters... Full tear down, full clean and lube, fresh battery, adjusted end shake for the balance, completely polished the crystal, it looks brand new now. Not bad for a few hours work right?

Finally well... almost finally finished. This one has been a long time coming. I got this vintage Citizen probably 9 months ago? This is a Citizen Seven Star Deluxe 5270 automatic with 23jewels. More springs that I care to count... one of which I lost, 5x needless to say I nearly completely lost my shizzle over it. Thankfully I had a bag full of generics and proceeded to just fabricate them over and over... I got kinda good at it :P
Anyhow, it's fully functional now, running decent, not perfect but perfectly acceptable for a watch that is nearly as old as I am. The crystal however is trash. Its mineral which is hard AF and nearly impossible to polish tho that didn't stop me, I'm sure there are those of us out there that have tried to polish mineral at least once. I have some diamond paste and I did make some progress but what I've found is that you don't really fix anything, you manage to soften the edges of the existing scratches but they never really go away, and honestly the clarity of the crystal just gets worse so as you can see from the video... pretty rough, but the dial is in great shape I want to be able to see it! I need to source an acrylic and see if I can adapt it to fit. If you happen to know, or have a line on a replacement or where I can find replacements for this, I'd greatly appreciate a heads up. This watch needs a little more love before it can be worn again and I really want to be able to wear it. Hope you're having an awesome weekend.
Finished the Endura Swiss Jump hour this morning. What Should have been just a quick button up after getting the hour and minute wheels reinstalled turned into 2 hours of me figuring out that if the minute wheel is off by a SINGLE TOOTH... the time will not line up properly! /smh
I have to say I'm pretty pleased with how this guy turned out. I serviced this for a coworker. I like it enough that I found one on ebay last night lol I don't have anything like it, they are pretty unique, basically in the late 60's and early 70's these were created to compete with the new and cool LED/LCD digital quartz stuff. The movement used was built to a price point hence pin levers, but Swiss watch makers still put in the effort and the movement in this really shows that. I'm really impressed. I think my coworker is going to be thrilled with the results.
Something else... evidently Endura was originally started in1966 by General Watch Company (GWC) in Biel/Bienne to create private label brands, and Endura was born. Also GWC later became part of ASUAG and SSIH which merged into SMH... which is now Swatch Group. So, you could almost say some of the dna in this watch carried over to Swatch, they've always struck me as quirky, fun, design forward stuff. Very cool
Serviced this wild little Endura Jump hour with a Swiss A 420 pin lever in it. This thing is wicked cool. When I got it from my coworker it was not happy at all. Very low amplitude but... running. Full tear down, clean, reassemble, proper lubrication... I have to say I'm shocked at the change. This little guy is pumping out 270 deg amplitude and .3ms be. I haven't regulated it I'll do that tomorrow after it's had 12hrs or so for the oil to settle and run in but this thing is seriously bitchin. When I case it all up I'll post some pics of the finished watch. I did a full ultrasonic clean for the case and back, its lookin really sharp. I'm quite impressed.
Back when I first got into watch repair and discovered pin levers, I went on a search for what I considered an "apex predator pin lever" like I realize pin levers were meant to be cheap and low cost but some swiss ones were actually built like tried and true swiss movements and its shows. This is the closest thing I've seen to that. I'm definitely not a fan of the shock settings, the keepers crank up my anxiety when I remove and replace them but otherwise this is a fantastic little movement.
