After this rewatch of Rescue, it just came to be how queer this whole episode was. It’s not just about the whole edge play and Avon/ Dorian gunplay erotic exchange, the main theme of the episode is so about how the crews become a founded family that bonds together by shared trauma.
It leads me to the end of Avon listing each of them as thief, killer, mercenary, and psychopath. I don’t actually like the archetype they try to put each character into, but I like the implication that they all are the people who has left out by the society, the people that has been viewed as deviant.
Taken that the analysis that the federation only find the use of the population for productive capacity, it is actually a biopower of the state which is the function of the heterosexual cisgender arrangement. (The federation being anti-queer state is actually kinda canon as seen in Servalan view in the Freedom City) - probably this point has better represented by Vila’s quote on The Way Back episode “We're all victims of a miscarriage of justice”
So, no matter how much they like to deny their love and care for each other, Dorian was like they belongs to each other. It’s beautiful but sad that at that point it’s more like they are together out of the sense that they have no one else to go to. But at the end of the day, it’s still their choice to stay. They could have parted way long before this but at the end each other was all they have.
