Usual crochet and gaming on most days.
Sept 12 - Ran a load of laundry. Just me for dinner; cooked some fries, a chicken burger patty, and peas.
Sept 13 - Still just me! Made a pot of beef & mac stew, which I only rarely make anymore because of brother's lactose intolerance. That's enough for supper today, lunch tomorrow, and snacking at some point.
Sept 14 - Another day of just me. Since lunch was pretty substantial (leftover beef & mac stew, yum) I just made myself a chicken-cheese-avocado sub for supper.
Sept 15 - Partially cleaned the bathroom, including such fun additionals as "washing the outside of the shower door" and "de-hairballing the drain".
...I have no memory of supper. I think after lunch I just snacked a lot? Yes, another day of just me at home.
Sept 16 - Did some more touch ups in the bathroom, like tackling some streaks left on the glass shower doors after yesterday's cleaning. Also finally got around to adding a pile more fanfics to my permanent library; got about halfway through the works of a writer who I've been meaning to add in for months.
Wasn't sure if brother would be back in time for supper or not until late evening/tomorrow, so I made a pizza, since leftovers of that pretty much always get eaten. As well as mixing some whole wheat into the crust like I frequently do (because diabetes), I also decided to toss in some semolina and milled flaxseed. Which is reminding me of just how long it's been since I last bothered baking a loaf of bread.
Happy Birthday Wisher September 12

Blanked on updating for a few days, not because of gaming for once but because we've had several annoyingly hot days in a row and I was too busy mentally swearing about how warm it still was at night to remember to post anything. Not HOT hot, but hot enough that doing anything (and especially cooking) pushes you over the line from 'barely tolerable' to 'dripping with sweat' (high 20C range basically). I am missing the single digit temps we had last weekend. Can I have that frost warning back? Pretty please??
Sept 12 - Pretty warm day, did some gaming and some crochet.
For supper I hauled the leftovers of a beef roast out of the freezer, and pressure cooked it with garden tomatoes and carrots. Turned leftover mashed potatoes from last night into potato pancakes with corn in them, to have the beef and sauce over. Using the pressure cooker didn't heat up the kitchen too much but the pancakes were not the best choice in that vein.
Sept 13 - Also a warm day. Baked a loaf of anadama bread.
Decided to go with something simple for supper and hauled the last tub of chili out of the freezer to serve with rice and a salad. Time to plan on making a new vat of chili in a week or so.
Sept 14 - An even warmer day. A lot of the day was spent lying in front of a fan crocheting because that was sedentary enough for me not to feel overheated. Also prepped a couple racks of pork ribs in two different marinades for future meals.
I made tuna fish salad and had a sandwich for supper because the will to cook was 100% Not There plus I had that loaf of nice fresh bread on hand.
Sept 15 - Yup, another day that was okay in the morning and stupidly hot by midafternoon. For supper I grilled a couple of lamb chops (seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic), cooked barley in lamb stock with chopped onions for the starch, and did a side of steamed mixed veg. All stuff that I could mostly stay out of the kitchen while it cooked.
Mistigram: in 8-bit programming, the "oddly specific" number 256 is an important one, and if you go looking for it you will find it everywhere in this realm. AdeptApril of Storm BBS observes the significance of this number for programmers today, the 256th day of the year, in this nominal #ANSIart screen.
Revisiting Blogging
Years ago, I belonged to a group of artists that encouraged blogging as a way to share our work, ideas, experiments, and techniques, so I tried it. I enjoyed the diary-like quality of blogging and the community engagement that sometimes occurred, but I never invested enough time following others' blogs and other social media posts, so I never got much of a following. Although I did post about art and my creative endeavors, I also posted more about my family life and the realities of being a working mom & how to balance it all. I eventually gave it up, as I would rather spend time with my family than blogging about my family, and I would rather be creating art than blogging about creating art.
One of my artists friends once quoted somebody as saying "if you don't exist online, you don't exist at all." While this may be true of a business or other organization, I'm not sure it can be applied to individuals. Maybe delving into the blogging world again will open my eyes to whatever benefits it has to offer. I'm looking forward to exploring new social media platforms with my fellow students!
