Growing up in a stable home with a well-off family, Arthur had a rather good childhood. He was picked on by his older brothers but he had his sister to rely on and share his stories with. A young and imaginative boy, he often hid in the garden with a book or walked to the library. There was nothing he loved more than transferring himself to another, more exciting world by these tales. His parents, although they provided the necessities for raising their children well, lacked nurturing qualities. As he grew, his mother became more focused on her work and social life and his father was never the openly affectionate type. He began to see they were the type of parents who thought they could buy their children’s love, something he detested. This vexation sprouted as he was sent to a boys boarding school at the age of 13. It was a tradition in their home to send their kids off; however, Arthur thought of it as a limitation and a way to unburden his parents from children who were too old to dote on anymore. While he succeeded in both his classes and sports making himself known as one of the school’s top students, he hated the thought that whenever he came home for summer vacation (for as he aged he did not visit for holidays very much), it would be his parents that would recieve the praise for his success. He grew to be more and more rebellious even finding it harder to connect with his sister by the time he graduated. When he recieved a very generous scholarship from Gakuen Hetalia, his hardwork had paid off. He did not want to use his family’s money to build his future. Refusing to have them help pay off the rest of the tuition, Arthur came up with the money himself. A fact he enjoys rubbing in their face.
