 investigating a murder scene should have gone just like any other day  ,  malcolm always brought in by gil to help analyze clues to solve cases needed to bring murderers to justice  .  this was supposed to be a routine day with no excitement   .  the scene had been cleared enough for the team to go in and do their thing  ,  but nothing ever stays simple when it involves malcolm bright does it  ?? 

the fire spread quickly throughout the building  ,  eating up the insulation and cheap wood like it were nothing more than paper doused in gasoline  .  though malcolm spent far too long within the confines trying to gather as much evidence as he could before there was absolutely no choice to but to escape before that decision was taken from him  .

sitting on the edge of the desk  ,  malcolm has forced himself to turn away from the room where the blinds are closed  .  for all intents and purposes  ,  malcolm is POUTING but he is actively trying to snap himself out of the pity party he’s throwing himself  .  of all people  ,  colette was the one to show up to take over the case for the fbi  .  he huffs a sigh of frustration until the moment he hears raised voices  .  its familiar   ,  but what is he doing here  ??

his mother is rattling on about whatever it is she does  .  the latest annoyance from the caterers or how he needs to eat more or the amount of sleep he HASN’T gotten .  this morning malcolm truly doesn’t have the energy to argue so he nods while swirling his spoon around in a bowl of oatmeal he certainly wasn’t going to eat to begin with  .  the profiler picks at it while simultaneously glimpsing at his phone HOPING that it will ring and that gil will have some new case for him to consult on  .  one can only HOPE  .  

the restarurant they occupy isn’t really that crowded and its not the lavish one his mother would usually prefer  ,  but malcolm INSISTED that he wasn’t feeling up to social standards today and opted for a little more relaxed environment   .  looking up from his bowl with the waitress offering more water or coffee for him  ,  those blue eyes catch those of the man across the restaurant who has already found him  .  

instantly ,  he’s brought back to the case  ,  the FIRE  ,  and the care received afterwards  .  its a flashback of sorts  ,  not in the worst way because the smile that greets him is warm enough to seep into his cheeks .  typically ,  these kind of cues are lost on the profiler but the face of this man he knows all too well  , engrained in his mind  ,  the one that aided him when he was at his most reckless  .

some  part  of  her  wonders  just  how  much  calculation  there  was  before  the  man  seated  on  the  back  bumper  of  AMBULANCE  61  acted.  he  saved  a  woman’s  life,  there’s  no  doubt  about  that.  got  a  pretty  nasty  bump  on  his  forehead  and  a  cut  on  his  arm  for  all  his  troubles,  too.  the  latter  has  been  tended,  disinfected  and  wrapped  in  a  thick  layer  of  gauze  to  stop  the  bleeding.  the  former  has  her  attention  at  present,  when  words  steal  it  away  for  a  passing  moment.

         sleep evades him yet again  .  the restless nights only seem to be getting more RESTLESS and agitated  .  that part of him is caged though as alex finds himself trying to remain awake for malcolm  .  that fight is quickly turning into a losing battle when malcolm peers over to see a heavy lidded EMT that has had quite a busy day  .  malcolm gets to the scenes after victims are already deceased  ,  but alex is the one to hopefully be the one to save lives  .

the words come as a surprise  .  not that they haven’t been in this situation before  , despite just how NEW it is  .  hands roaming  , lips colliding in passion filled fogginess , but when those eyes and that smirk stare him right in the face , malcolm can’t help but stare  .  his hearts beats frantically against his chest  .  all he’s ever wanted was for someone to want him  , to care as alex does and now that he has it believing it seems a bit too far out of his reach .  especially with the words that accompany those eyes filled with lust . 

getting to this point took work  .  YEARS of solely being friends  it’s been  ,   but going from the man that administered care to malcolm after a fire to the one that cares for him in much more intimate ways wasn’t an easy feat to accomplish  . malcolm never lets anyone in too haphazardly  .  there’s too much at stake to let his heart wander and fall prey to heartache  . “ i want you … so badly  .  “  to anyone else it might mean nothing but for the profiler it means EVERYTHING  .
