  Selithil found herself leaning against a pillar of stone as the evening’s events waned, a gifted cup of mead clutched behind delicate fingers. It was as she took a swig of the sweet beverage that Selithil noticed one of the performances attendees and shouted shamelessly towards her. “’Ey! You! Yesh, you there!” The monk stumbled forward, remembering just then that she had buried her feet in the sand, “Good inshults you had up there. I don’tsh think your plated friend liked some of them mucsh though. Doesh he growl like that in bed too?”

The Devil in Reverse: When has your character suffered from refusing to break off an unhealthy relationship?

  Desperation. Hope. Comfort. Someone to hold and be held in the darkest times, when there was no light, no hope, no comfort, only blackness and claws digging into their desperation, a void that never seemed to end. 

  Friends, enemies, lovers. Through each fading day they were all three, until the day a question was posed, ripping the wool pulled over her eyes to the truth. 

“Sel… have you ever thought about… us? About giving up this fun for something meaningful – with me?”

There it was, that truth, as naked as she was now. It left a hollowed hole in her chest. “Is that what you want?”

“I’m asking you. You know what I want. I’ve told you a thousand times, darling.”

Sel froze, her thoughts drifting. “I have.”

“Care to give it a try? Give us a shot?”

No, no, no… Stained crimson lips pursed she fell silent, pleading with the Light and demons alike to make this situation disappear. Make it just a dream, a nightmare. She knew she couldn’t trust him and never had, but the hidden truth was she did love him, always would. How can you be with someone you’re too afraid to trust, Sel? That hopelessness she felt, the desperation to hold on magnified tenfold, “I’ll…try.”

“If you’re never going to give me a straight answer I can’t do this. I’m tired of these games, Sel. Forget I ever asked.”

“What do you mean pulling that wire means it’ll explode?” Veri kicked the box that had arrived at his door, only prompting its ticking to accelerate, “Oh…”

“The Light is a finicky thing, bending it and using it to your will is more efficient than believing in some divine nonsense. I’ve never had faith.” Cellys scoffed, obviously hiding a distant, painful memory.

((I wanted to write something for this too but I’m afraid I blanked so – Canerae mistrusts both frequently so frequently in fact that it’s a reason she took so long to master a bow. That and picking one up later in life. ))

The Sun in Reverse: When does your character’s goal seem just out of reach?

  Just one more day, one more and I can leave. I can leave this place and travel, sell these things I love instead of… 

  Shrill screams shattered her peaceful reverie. Another fight had broken out in the house, another argument about debts unpaid. “You can’t, not until you’ve paid everything back. Every last piece of gold.”

 Selithil cringed when the sobs broke and the echo of a slap was their answer. She’d learned long ago never to show any weakness, not here. A painful reminder of a past forgotten resurfaced when the crying woman ran by, raven locks tousled and streaks of red marring her cheek. 

  Pity and sympathy were two very different things to Sel, yet both emotions were ever present when she tip-toed through the woman’s room. Not a single regret crossed her mind that night, even as she left the leather pouch filled with half her life’s earnings sitting atop a nightstand that wasn’t hers.

A hardened glare was cast across the room behind long, accentuated lashes, “Why do you want to know about that worthless man? He can go fuck himself for all I care.”

Selithil flashed a grin and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, “This is one of the most profitable holidays for me. So, of course not.”

33: Do you want to get married one day?

“I don’t know...”

Manicured nails drummed over the wooden table as Selithil sighed at the resurfacing memory, “There was once where an ex of mine wasn’t able to become aroused because he’s an idiot and got a certain piercing caught against the fabric of his pants. Trolls will pierce anything.” She frowned and continued on, “Then there was another time where he just would not stop crying and telling me he loved me. Even afterwards.”

Most of her time is spent mixing pigments for new cosmetics, or trying different combinations for herbs for various other beauty products. (A lot of the times this doesn’t go as planned...) If there’s something that can be made its probably a safe bet to say she’s tried to. She’s learned to enjoy the traveling and sampling suppliers wares as well.

Canerae is my awkward, free-spirited, wanderer and I’ve always loved all of that about her. I especially love getting her into awkward situations where she just continues to talk and talk…and talk. It’s fun to see what kind of trouble she can get into that way. 

Selithil… her confidence is my favorite thing about her. But what I like even more is watching that mask slip.
