How about we stop casting moral judgement on Trans men who self medicate and actually support them to a safe way forward! As well as support Trans people's right to access treatment!
Moralising bullshit about how "it's not the right way dude" and "you're making it harder for everyone else" does not and has never worked for anything. You don't know why they're self medding! It could be their only option right now and they could have been waiting years to even get that. Don't pass judgement, you don't know their personal circumstances.
What *has* been proven to work, on the other hand, for making self medding safer, reducing wariness from the medical establishment and widening treatment access here in the UK is the concept of *harm reduction*.
1. Do not condemn self medding folks, provide info about how to spot dodgy T, what blood tests you need and where to get them and how to ensure injection hygiene through clean needles etc.
2. Educate medical practitioners! Here in the UK work to reduce self medding stigma and actually look at *why* people do it has lead to an amazing policy of bridging prescriptions that make things *much* safer. Your GP can if needed prescribe T before a specialist diagnosis is made with support from a local endo to reduce the risk of both suicide and harm from self medding. So far from reducing hormone access a positive and understanding discussion around self medding lead to *more* access to treatment.
I'm sick of seeing the community stonewalling people who self medicate, we should be reaching out to make *all* our community safe and welcome!
