The idea of self care to many has seem to have caught on as a selfish endeaver when in fact, by helping yourself, you help others.
It is odd when one really thinks about it, is it really selfish? Are they saying it is better to focus on everyone else around us and help them with their needs but not our own? Eventually, due to lack of self care, it is inevitable that we will fall apart and therefore not be able to help those around us at all because we are human. We all have needs, and if we first donāt pay attention to our own, how will we ever be able to help others?
Take care of your precious heart so that it can continue to share itās own kind of love and care to those around you.
Now, many people think self care mainly involves āa day for yourselfā and/or a āspa day insideā and according to many of my friends when I approached with the topic, but what they donāt and many others donāt realize is that these are one time shots of self care, they are only temperary, and are an attempt to forget everything going on at that moment in life or to avoid problems which the next day are going to have to be solved either way. These ideas arenāt bad ideas every once in a while but they should not be your main techniques to self care.
Self care is about loving who you are today and taking care of you because you should love who you are. To love yourself truly lets you love someone else in a whole new way. To love your flaws and imperfections means to truly accept others for who they are.
Self care is NOT trying to pretend everything is okay! Self care means letting yourself feel the way you are going to feel and not pretend to feel differently. Itās respecting yourself enough to listen to your own heart and make sure your feelings are heard, just like you may do for your friends. Self care should be treating yourself like your precious best friend that no other person could ever get as close as, like the love of your life you had been waiting for to say that you are amazing just the way you are. Self care is loving yourself enough to respect your own needs and wants.
Self care is something that should be implemented everyday! Because you are always important silly! And letās face it, we all have lives, things to do, and self care is something that also requires effort just like every other task. But this task gives back, a lot, in the moment and in the long run.
So, with lots of research and surfing many resources Iāve found quite a few small ways and techniques to use along with every day life habits one may already have to implement self care:
Create a tumblr self care blog :3
What better way to start then at home? On Tumblr! Search āself careā and youāll be surprised to see the number of blogs dedicated to self care for themselves as well as everyone else. Finding posts that make you feel better as a person is important because it also means youāve found someone else who understands you, and that is especially important with self care. Not to mention the motivational quotes and inspiration from other peopleās endeavors.
Create tumblr blog for self care
Follow other Self Care Tumblrs
Find Self Care quotes, tips, stories, etc. and post them
Look back on your blog whenever needing some self care
Create a board on Pinterest built on positives~
This is actually how I started :P I was a pinaholic before tumblr and I had realized, why not use my addictive pinning habits to help build something that may help me. The board though should be built upon inspirational quotes, things that motivate you to be beautiful you and donāt put u down but also should not make you feel like you arenāt good enough the way you are. Of course you could be better, everyone could be, but this is where you are and this board should be about being happy to be the you that is here and now :)

Be around those people who make you happy to be alive
Or at least pay those people a visit often. Shows you care about them too and that will create a closer and healthier bond
Having a support group is so essential to self care. Be with those you like you or even love you for who you are. Some will say they do but do they really? One way to tell that maybe itās best no to hang out with them as often is if they complain consistently about things you do, or if they use their āloveā or affections to get things out of you or as bribery to do something or be a certain way that isnāt natural for you. Basically someone who genuiely doesnāt make you feel good to be you shouldnāt be a primary hang out buddy.
One of the biggest mistakes is not letting yourself feel whatever you are feeling for fear of how itāll affect others or that it is āwrong.ā Now you donāt HAVE to act upon these emotions, but at least admit to yourself that you have them. No one else NEEDS to know that you have them as much as you do. Love yourself enough to respect that you have feelings.
Speak up for what you believe is right
Even in the small places like school, work, home, out at the store, walking down the street, etc. You have a voice, a brain, and ideas and beliefs that should be shared because they are yours! Donāt deprive yourself.
Standing up for what you believe is right is also vital to loving yourself because it is respecting your own beliefs! Putting what you find important up front and standing up for it will make you feel sooo much better. Some people arenāt worth sharing these ideas with because they are closed minded but if you feel in your heart that you could make a difference then speak up. Youād be surprised how much confidence youāll gain and how much more people will respect your beliefs. Not only that but you believe what you believe for a reason, speaking up allows you to figure out why you believe what you believe even more than you think and it attracts people with the same ideas to you :)
Start with saying no to things you donāt believe are right to do
Not just agreeing with whatever your friends say is right and wrong
Not just doing whatever everyone tells you to do, question and speak up
When seeing someone being picked on especially for something you feel strongly about, speak up
When your input could change how someone sees something drastically because they truly didnāt see the whole picture
Watch that show that makes you laugh like crazy
Laughing does wonders for the brain and increases your mood overall by reducing loads of stress.
I LOVE watching Romance comdies (rom coms) especially with korean dramas~
Take a break every once in a while (once every 2 days minimum) and watch an episode
During studying, after 1hr of studies watch one episode
At night before going to bed, watch an episode
When waking up before school or work or a rough day starts, put watching an episode into your morning routine
Create a journal of one of these:
Things you love about yourself
Things you are grateful for in your life
Memories that make you happy
Thoughts you have during the day with quotes that relate & describe them
