Me: I’m gonna stay up a little later and play video games. Also me: let’s write headcanons about an au where Sei lives. Me: …. ok, but quickly and then video games. Ok, so sometimes when I read a fic where Sei lives and gets to come home with Aoba they characterize Sei as very innocent, and giggly or childish. But like. I feel this is totally wrong? Soooo. Sei who isn’t soft or shy, but he just doesn’t talk cause what he said before didn’t matter. Sei who, when he does start talking and realizing his wants matter now, doesn’t take shit from anyone, and talks back and is rude, especially when he does want to do something. Sei, who has no sense of privacy. Just walks right into Aoba’s room no matter what he is doing. Sei, not freaking out when he cuts his finger pretty bad while chopping vegetables for Granny, but when she pulls out the medical needle to stitch his finger up. Sei who literally knows almost everything in the world, cause his brain was part of the internet for a long time. Aoba and Sei going to find Aoba’s parents, and Sei being the one to chew them out, cause, how could you leave your child behind at such a young age! And don’t you think this tells them that you don’t love them at all! And on and on, but deep down he is so happy they didn’t take Aoba with them, cause then he would never have found out about him, and never have meet him. And never have found a reason to hang on. Or to live. Or to not just become the weapon he was made to be. Sei, telling Aoba that the reason he started questioning if what they where doing to him was wrong, was when they had a bring your child to work day. And the more sick scientist took their kids in with them when they where doing experiments on him, and they asked why they where hurting a kid their age. The scientist replied that Sei wasn’t a kid. He would have been around 9. Sei going through extensive physical therapy, and still needing a wheelchair when going out for full days. Sei never wearing short sleeves out of the house after the one time someone noisy asked if he was a druggy. And then crying for the first time in a long time to Aoba cause it had felt like he was when he was in the tower. Sei who will still call Toue his father, but gets upset with himself when he does. Sei knowing he was abused, and knowing it before he found out about Aoba. Sei waking up from nightmares that are just of the feeling of being trapped and scared, and of times when he thought ‘today’s the day that they’ll no longer have use of me, and just get ride of me’. ….. This got long.

Alright, so I have this pretty big headcanon about Sei that I think could be canon. I've discussed several points in the game, which involves spoilers, so I'm putting it under a 'read more' in case you don't want to be spoiled. It's fairly long, but it's pretty interesting.

SEI'S STILL ALIVE!!! Well, it depends on how you interpret the headcanon. From what I've seen in the show/game and noticed in the fandom, Sei is dead, and it seems like a fairly canon belief that he is. I mean, he did asked Aoba to kill him, which he did, and then left his "brother's" (I have another headcanon to explain the quotations) body in Oval Tower as it collapsed. This was how I interpreted that scene originally when I played the game the first time through, and I didn't question it. But then when the end came, I started to get confused. Ren's personality was now occupying Sei's body (we all can collectively agree with that), but hadn't Aoba killed Sei, therefore making the body basically unusable? Not necessarily. The mistake was that I'd (and probably a lot of others) interpreted Sei saying "destroy me" as "kill me", but as addressed in the game, the point is made that Aoba's power can "free" people through "destroying" things that hold them back (Noiz's inability to feel pain for example). Also, it was never specified by Sei that he wanted to die, as far as I'm aware. He just said that he wanted Aoba to "destroy him", and I'm guessing that Sei understands Aoba's power a lot more then he does. Another point is that Aoba received a Captive Princess message just before seeing Ren at the hospital. As we learned, Sei was the one behind these messages. What's so utterly important isn't just that Aoba got this message or the context of it, but merely the fact that this is evidence that Sei is still able to communicate with his "brother" through Captive Princess. It's pretty clear that Sei was able to monitor Aoba's actions very precisely, considering the timing of the Captive Princess messages, and that no one else was associated with them since no ones else discussed them during the routes. With this evidence, along with the knowledge that Sei asked Aoba to "destroy me" and Ren now occupies his body, this opens up the possibility that what Aoba may have done was destroy the tie of Sei's personality and his weak body, thus freeing him from the physical obstacle (the concept is odd, but bear with me). Sei had somehow created consciences that allowed him to interact with a fabricated virtual reality (which served as the framework for Rhyme) and limitedly with the outside world (as we saw with his few flash appearances to Aoba in the game). If Sei's personality was freed from his body, this could mean that he would be able to exist solely on the virtual plane as something like an extremely complex AI program like Clear or an Allmate, but even more complex. Essentially, it's like Sei downloaded his brain into the Internet and existed through it, with his personality unchanged through the process. This could explain why Aoba received the Captive Princess message at such a precise time, since Sei would still be able to monitor his actions and gauge when to send it. So with all to be considered, Sei is still alive, in the virtual plane, and probably able to due all the things he was able to do in the past. Maybe even more without the physical restraint of his body, though that can't be proven with what's seen in the game/show, but Sei can most likely exist in multiple forms, like Captive Princess, Usui, in an Allmate or a Clear-esque robot. There are an endless stream of possibilities with this, and it's more pleasing to think Sei's still alive.

Imagine if Sei did grow up with Aoba and Tae and lived a fairly normal life You will will never convince me that he would not be a hella sassy babe, because he was really only so compliant out of necessity,,, He would still be sweet and caring and selfless but just Pretty sassy too
