"Special delivery," Kit announced. He held up a take-out box with one hand, the other linked with Rip's by the elbow, "Slam sent us to bring you lunch."

Ok so!! Quick backstory: Sapphire was still in nursing school when the meteor hit, so when it happened there was an emergency call for all medical students to come out and help. Once the initial chaos slowed down, all the students who helped out were given the option of being absorbed into the hospital on a 'special circumstances' basis.
