The end of the Beginning
It has been hell. Rough roads, deep ruts, mud. Not normal mud. The kind of mud you just can’t escape. In fact, I’m sure it’s the type of mud they’d use to build a prison in some long-ago life. Deep. Viscous. Clay. The temptation is to give up. Turn around. Quit. We are, after all, merely at the end of the beginning...
But we don’t give up. We know the reward will be worth the difficult journey. Others have had greater challenges than this. This is nothing. A test. We put our heads down and keep grinding - keep moving forward. The modern conveniences of satellite radio and heated seats slap us in the face as a stark reminder of how good we have it. The wheels find traction. The hum of the washboard road provides a rhythmic backdrop as “Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons pours from the speakers. Perspective. It’s all about perspective. This is the road ahead. This is the path on which we will seek greatness, as we come to the end of the beginning...
The terrain changes; becomes more inviting. The mood changes; becomes more hopeful, more exciting. Almost without notice, the ruts, the mud, and the clay give way to soft sand and rock. The anticipation builds - it seems unimaginable that not long ago, there existed the thought of quitting, of turning around, of giving up. What a shame that would’ve been; opportunities like this do not present themselves often. These opportunities build character. Suddenly, as Alstrom Point becomes visible for the first time, the reality of this experience sets in. This is not just a scenic overlook - this is life-changing. It is powerful. This is a great reset. A new life. A new beginning...
Continuing on, the road ushers you closer and closer to pure greatness. The view becomes more remarkable, more grand, more unimaginably beautiful. It simply cannot be real. It must have been created in a Hollywood studio. The 4-wheel drive continues to engage and provide traction over jagged rocks and rough terrain. Each revolution of the all-terrain tires taking you closer to the final destination; taking you closer to a new you, a new life, a new perspective.
Standing here, the cares of the world do not exist. There are no politics. There are no finances. Stress is a thing of the past. In a world that is increasingly fake, increasingly digital, increasingly chaotic - Alstrom Point is as real as it gets.Such a profundity of beauty can only lead to change. It will stay with you. It will become a very real part of you. Alstrom Point is more than a beautiful view, it is inspiration realized. Time should be measured as Before Alstrom and After Alstrom. This is the treasure, the reward for persevering through the mud, the doubt, the fear. This is the great lesson - that through the difficulty you can find greatness. This is just the end of your new beginning. Embrace it - your life is about to change!
