Anime-inspired life and farming simulation game Starsand Island will launch for Switch 2 alongside its previously announced PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) versions in early 2026, developer Seed Lab  announced.

The Switch 2 version of Starsand Island will take full advantage of the console’s hardware, offering a “Quality Mode” targeting 45 frames per second in 1080p resolution, and a “Performance Mode” targeting 60 frames per second in 1080p resolution (both docked and handheld), as well as Game Chat during online multiplayer, and mouse control functionality.

“Bringing Starsand Island to Nintendo Switch 2 has been a longstanding goal for us; the life-sim genre has a natural home on Nintendo consoles,” said Seed Lab creative director Richardo Wang in a press release. “Even before it was announced nearly a year ago, we knew—and wanted—our game to be on Nintendo’s next-generation platform. Starsand Island transports players to a simple, pastoral life, and we think that should be available whether they’re at home, commuting to and from work, or taking a break.”

Starsand Island sees you leaving the big city to start a rural life on an island. Collect treasures by the sea, fist, grow crops, raise animals, cook, craft, and become friends and/or lovers with the townsfolk. The game boasts a DIY building mechanic to be able to customize the house of your dreams.

Seed Lab has released a new trailer for anime-inspired life simulation game Starsand Island, as well as new information about the game’s combat and multiplayer features.

Here are the details:

Revealed during today’s PC Gaming Show, in addition to the calm, tranquil farming and friendship building showcased to date, Starsand Island will feature third-person combat mechanics when players explore the island’s mystical, ruined area. As players encounter the many strange animals that live among the ruins, they’ll use a range of weapons, including slingshots and bows, to remove a magical corruption from the creatures, enabling them to be domesticated.

Powerful animal bosses also live among the ruins, presenting a further layer of challenge. Overcoming them will take skill to exploit the creatures’ weaknesses, upgrade weapons and ammo, and perfectly time counters, but with the promise of greater rewards – including unlocking advanced professions to master—it’s a risk worth taking!

Exploring the ruins and battling its strange inhabitants doesn’t have to be a solo experience; like the rest of Starsand Island life, it can also be enjoyed online with a friend, as part of the game’s multiplayer. Players will also be able to invite friends to help build their idyllic, pastoral life, as they plant and harvest crops, fish and master animal husbandry, and construct a perfect home. They can also share vehicles or ride the larger animals, and adventure across the length and breadth of the island.

Today’s reveal also highlighted a number of advanced features available to players on their journey to exploring the simple life: The addition of smart robots will help automate farming, ensuring the harvest is reaped while players are away from their homestead—perhaps on a futuristic hoverboard—while custom glasshouses built in DIY mode will harness the sun’s energy to further help with plant propagation.

Starsand Island is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, and Microsoft Store in early 2026.

Players will be able to skate, ride, drive, and fly a range of vehicles, including skateboards, rollerblades, cars, scooters with (and without) sidecars, and even a paraglider, across the island’s lush pastures, green- and amber-hued woodlands, glistening sandy beaches, and the surrounding azure seas. Amphibious craft will also be available, enabling seamless land and water traversal, further expanding players’ horizons. Exploring the island won’t have to be done solo: a number of vehicles have passenger seats, allowing NPC pals and pets – and even real-life friends via Starsand Island‘s multiplayer gameplay – to go along for the ride, while the game’s photo mode will allow players to capture memories and moments from every part of their adventure.

Showcasing the game at this year’s BitSummit expo in Japan, Seed Lab is also unveiling more details on both the character and vehicle customization available in Starsand Island. The anime-inspired life sim’s release date was revealed on the opening day of Tokyo Game Show, where attendees can experience a taste of the expansive gameplay on offer when the game is released.

As part of the preparations for launch, a closed alpha test of the game will take place shortly, which will see select would-be islanders invited to participate. A Starsand Island demo will launch ahead of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which takes place between October 13 and October 20. The demo will give players the opportunity to experience a simpler life when it’s released on October 8.

Available to wishlist on Steam, Starsand Island sees the player’s character embark on a journey of personal healing, as they escape the hustle and bustle of city life and return to the island home of their childhood.
