hey just letting you know that sponsored post about so called ""encryption training"" has op trying to solicit personal information from people by using zoom, a historically unsafe program, as opposed to any other app if you just take a few seconds to google it. aka they are trying to profile you for unknown reasons... despite... supposedly trying to teach an internet security class for the betterment of tumblr people... they are also deleting replies to those who are skeptical or questioned them. do not sign up. the resources linked are fine but the registration is shady af to give to someone who you dont know especially when zoom is no better than fb / google / etc
Hi- thanks for sharing your concern! it's important that we're all vigilant.. but I don't want to share false information. You may have noticed that early in the comments section of that post, I've already brought my concerns about registration to the attention of the organizers, and they have responded to me. FYI:
"Zoom registration allows users to keep track of attendees, generate leads, limit the number of meeting participants, and more."
I've done my research, Here's what I'm doing to keep safe and secure:
I use a VPN and will be sure to login from somewhere I do NOT live.
To register, I'll use fake names, and a throw-away email. this is standard procedure for securing one's identity on the internet.
Additionally- I will attend the meeting as a 'guest' without logging to my own Zoom account.
--IF this group is using the Zoom function which restricts workshops to 'registered/logged in users only' -- I will absolutely not participate.
Feel free to check out this independent audit of Zoom security 2022
