sheriff of Smallville who forged the papers for the Kent's cornfield baby is the unsung hero of the universe
I love the idea of the folks of Smallville absolutely being in on the secret, while also being clueless about the origins of Kent family mystery baby
Ma Kent never once lied about how she came across Clark.
Thing is, people being exceedingly polite and considerate in that part of the States, they take this to mean the baby's folks are dead, or worse yet abandoned him all together.
And no one wants a kid growing up knowing his folks left him for the chayotes to chow down, or died in a car crash that wiped them out before he could talk.
Even so people are concerned and go to the sheriff's office, asking if anyone has been looking for a infant boy, blue eyes and a stubborn curl on his forehead.
The sheriff's calling around, asking if any car crashes with no passengers was found near by, if anyone has been searching for a couple with a newborn.
And sure you could go through the proper channels, put the baby in the system, but then who wants to tell Mrs Kent that the baby she's been looking after has to go to a orphanage and hope for the best?
People aren't judgemental about a woman having no children as much as they used to be, but it wasn't really a big secret the Kent's were struggling in that department.
And now Ma Kent is smiling like shes a young lady again, back straight and walking brisk, and no one wants to ruin her happiness!
Now this being a small town, some folks are just exceedingly uncooperative with the government all right?
So dealing with a baby having no proper documentation before they turn two or three and start going to daycare or kindergarten, is a routine part of the law's job. Guardians pay a small fine for the delay, get the town's general practitioner to go over the kids heartbeat and hearing, eyesight and what not.
No big deal.
