The SewGreen reuse store is a beautiful community resource with a customer base that feels like family. People of all ages learn to sew here. Our youth employment program has provided jobs and growth opportunities for hundreds of teens. We are a mission-driven green business that saves more than 30 tons of usable materials from landfills every year. Please help SewGreen survive the C-19 crisis. Our goal is to build a fund to pay our furloughed workers when they return, and to keep up with rent and utilities while we are closed.
I know I have other folks who like sewing and crafting following me, and people with an interest in waste-reduction. I’m hoping some of those folks will help share this fundraiser for a business in a city near me.
SewGreen is one of my favorite places, and a brilliant concept. It’s a second-hand fabric and craft store, stocked with donated items that people clear out of their stash, re-sold at a small price to other creators. I have found so many wonderful quality and vintage supplies that you simply can’t get at a big box store, and rely on them for my sewing supplies. They also do sewing classes, offer internships through local job-training programs, and are a wonderful bunch of eco-conscious, creative people. Since NY is shut down, so are they. (The owner is getting permission to continue the sewing-machine-repair part of the business, since mask-making is “essential.”)
