There's a plant in my math class that reminds me of you. I spent 6 months laying in your arms, looking at a similar plant. it's the little things I can't forget. The smirk on your face when i said yes to being yours, our first nervous kiss, the following kisses, the way you said I spoke too heavily, talking about death too much, your curling lip when you yelled at me. I cannot forget you. I feel your presence in all of my poems, every one i write has you hidden in it, your name sneaking out of my fingertips. it's now turned into a game of Where's Wesley? each time i write a poem. Stop sneaking your way into my poems. Instead, sneak out of my heart. Sneak out of my mind. Stop finding your way into my thoughts. Sneak out of my life. Sneak out of the window, walk quickly out of the door, do something. Get out of my heart.

if he won’t hold your hand like it is his moon, leave him. if he won’t kiss every burn from when your sun got too hot, leave him. If he doesn’t show you that you are the moon, the stars, the sun, leave him. You are not one to settle. You are never too much for a man, he simply cannot handle that the stars are in your eyes, the galaxies are in your brain and each of your freckles that make beautiful constellations. maybe he was never meant to be an astronaut.

"you’re wanting to be a daddy’s girl to a dad who doesn’t want that, and you’re struggling because of it." 4 year old girls need to be held. they need big fingers to wrap their fragile hands around. 4 year old girls need shoulder rides by their daddy to feel on top of the world. 6 year old girls need to be spoiled. they need big arms to be wrapped in after nightmares. 6 year old girls need to be crowned by their daddy to realize they’re a princess. 8 year old girls need to be praised. they need pushed to try out to be a cheerleader (and cheered on when she makes it) 8 year old girls need to be told by their daddy “I’m proud of you” 12 year old girls need to be loved. they need to be told “you’re not allowed to get married until you’re 50, so why date anyway?” 12 year old girls need a shoulder to cry on after her first heartbreak. 15 year old girls need to be taught. they need taught how to drive, no matter how much yelling. 15 year old girls need to be tutored when her social studies class is just a little too hard. I guess what I’m saying, is all of these things I needed we’re never given to me. I want to be held, spoiled, praised, loved, taught. I want to be a daddy’s girl to a daddy who does these, instead of a father who doesn’t think I’m worth a phone call not even on my first 13 bithday when I was so excited to be a teen. a father who doesn’t even earn the name “dad” because when you hear “dad” you think “daughter” and that’s more than I ever was to him.
