unpopular opinion that shouldn’t be as unpopular as it is: seaver is actually a good character, fandom just doesn’t like change and she didn’t get a lot of screentime. some of her scenes were cringy and she was mean to spencer once, but that’s true for literally all of the characters.
Do you want to share any details on how you're gonna write your aro character? 👀 it's something I think about a lot and I'd love to hear your thoughts 👀
I would LOVE to talk about him, because I adore him. I’m actually going to post some of the scene I wrote; I started typing it up earlier and then realized there was a lot more than I realized, and got distracted lol. Also feel free to ask about my characters any time bc literally everyone is some flavor of queer, and I love them all. (Plz ask me about my Pan enby/genderfluid shifter bc they’re amazing)
His name is Mitch (Seaver not Rapp. Which, yes, he's my OC version of Mitch bc I love him ;_;), he's an Oceanography major doing his Master's degree, and working as a TA part time, which is how he meets our protagonist, Finn (A disaster Bi, we love him.)
Unfortunately for Mitch, he's got a reputation for being a fuckboy. He only ever does one night stands, picks up girls at parties, etc. And he hates that rep, because he is always up front about what he wants, he doesn't play with people's feelings, and he doesn't make promises he can't keep. He also tries to only sleep with women that are on the same page, but sometimes someone thinks they'll be the exception, and people get hurt.
In the case of this scene. Mitch is the one hurt when a girl walks up, accuses him of leading her on, and slaps him before storming off. Finn laughs and says that's what he gets for being such a fuckboy, and Mitch kind of blows up at him before he storms off. Finn can see that he struck a nerve, and clearly hurt him.
Finn gives Mitch some time to cool off before going to find him in the lab, aggressively labeling specimens. He apologizes for what he said because he knows he was out of line, and Mitch was right to call him out on it. He then asks why Mitch doesn't date. Because he knows it's a thing, and from what he's seen of Mitch so far, he's got a pretty good idea why, but he wants to make sure before he starts throwing labels around.
So Mitch explains why he doesn't want relationships, and how they make him feel, and how it makes him physically sick to imagine someone being devoted to him like that. He doesn't want to be someone's everything; it's not romantic to him, it's horrifying. (Basically drawing off my own experience and how I felt the first time someone confessed to me, when it gave me an actual anxiety attack and left me sick for days)
Mitch isn't up and up on the queer lingo, he's just a chill ally that goes with whatever people (Finn) tell him is/isn't cool, so he doesn't know that he might be aro. Doesn't even know that's a thing. He just thinks he's bad at relationships, and deep down, probably thinks he's broken. But Finn points him in the right direction and tells him to do some research, just to see if anything sounds a little familiar.
Few days later Mitch catches Finn after class and thanks him, says he thinks Finn was right, because it does sound like him. And it's weird, it's going to take some getting used to, but it's also a relief. He's not just a fuckboy or a womanizer or a manwhore, and everything else he knows people call him behind his back. And he's not alone. There are other people that feel the same way he does.
Basically I'm going to put him through my journey of self-discovery, except it's going to go a lot smoother for him because he'll have a better support structure than I did. And he won't be in the middle of a self-destructing relationship when he makes the discovery lol
But yeah basically, it's going to confront some of the harsh stereotypes about aro people (being cold/frigid, commitment issues, only wanting to sleep around/being players), and subvert it with what being aro actually means, and show the relief in finding out your not just an awful, broken person.

Spencer & Seaver
no❤️
seaver was a severely undeveloped character. it was very apparent that after they broke aj’s contract bc—misogyny, they quickly found another blue eyed blonde girl (no hate to the actress she was simply doing her job) and there were some times that she was just outright mean to spencer for no reason. she made it clear that she wasn’t very interested in what he was talking about sometimes and then was flirting with him the next: 1/10
