Prompt: Wish

Searsha once saw children at a festival writing on colorful strips of paper and then tying them into the branches of bamboo. When she asked them about it, they explained that they were writing down wishes. When she looked confused by the practice, the children were eager to teach her how to do it...if only because they were nosy about the stranger's wishes.

Prompt 1: Belonging

When Searsha arrived in the East, she expected to live life as an outcast. However, when a village took a chance on her, she slowly started to develop a sense of belonging.

Prompt 2: Payment

Searsha envied the way the hyur and au ra ninjas could blend in with the commoner population. She was afforded no such luxury given her heritage. Still, she found work enough, and she wore her reputation like a mask when in public.

After being betrayed and left for dead by a Highlander named Thorne, Searsha felt unsafe and vulnerable for the first time since leaving the jungle. Since she felt uneasy around the other survivors, she returned to Kugane to recover. She doesn't consciously realize it, but this is a theme for when she feels insecure. She either returns to the eastern city or she will seek out items from the city when she is abroad. She will look for the cuisine or tea, or might shop for clothing that she associates with the people at the sake bars or night markets. Another thing that makes her feel safe and secure is sparring or watching others spar. She's very much a creature of action, so knowing that she is strong enough to ward off physical attacks, or that she is surrounded by allies who can, helps take her mind off her insecurities.

Evie is always chasing new ways to feel safe and secure. She taught herself to grow wheat and bake bread so that she would never know hunger again, and now baking and decorating baked goods is associated with safety and security. She did the same thing with learning to fish. When she is out in a place where she doesn't know people, she will introduce herself to as many strangers as possible so that she is memorable, just in case the people who once hunted her family are still out there looking for her. She also travels with someone whenever she strays a fair distance from cities. While she has friends who think these behaviors indicate a sense of paranoia or persistent insecurity, Evie is comfortable with the practices and doesn't even think twice about them.
