Merry Christmas from the McCallisters.
Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” TV series screencaps--Atlantica
While I loved the show as a kid, I never appreciated how beautiful its background art is. Like most TV shows based on Disney films, the animation is generally much cheaper, but since scenery rarely has to move, the artist of “The Little Mermaid” really got to show off.
Most of these screencaps, I took myself from Disney+, though a few are from elsewhere on the Internet.
Atlantica's Redesign
The palace of Atlantica, in particular, gets a much needed makeover.
One of my biggest peeves about the movie is the relatively bland design for the underwater castle. While other film adaptations and book illustration’s give “the Little Mermaid” a lovely home built from giant seashells or coral, Disney apparently thought an art-deco bouquet of golden phalluses was good enough.
The TV series however redesigns the palace to more resemble a cut-away conch, often with a color scheme of pearly white and gold. More large shells are worked into its rooves and towers.

King Triton’s Bed
...is underneath that large magic mushroom canopy, I think....
Dining Room:
...where Ariel seems to have no trouble using a dinglehopper, nor find anything remarkable about it. Continuity is not this show’s priority.
