Super quick Friday Morning update... thing.
Busy. So busy the past few days. Got lots of UI things done this week for the upgrade menu (selecting upgrade now works), and started to clean up balance ... a little. Added in a third primary weapon; a cannon-bomb-thing. It still needs a bunch of tweaking, but the idea is "you shoot. big boom kills multiple things at once. then you wait awhile until you can shoot again."
And here's the upgrade menu. I've now got mouseover upgrade descriptions, a lot more icons, and some sweet utility methods for laying out rows of icons nicely.
The icons in the boxes in the bottom right of the screen are the upgrades selected for the 3 primary upgrade slots. Right now the upgrade slots are going to work kind of as Primary, Secondary, and Action/Special. Specials are typically beefed up versions of a primary or secondary, with an additional useage limit; You get a missile barrage that spews missiles for 5 seconds straight, but you can only use it 5 times per mission and it has a 15 second cooldown.
