Jan.1.2019
Yay! Day 1 of this challenge! I'm excited to kick this off.Â
I’ve dedicated my first day of this challenge to stewing and plotting my upcoming project. I’ll admit, I kind of cheated a bit...by starting the planning in December...BUT it was close to new years so I’m cutting myself some slack.
Also the idea for this game literally woke me up in the middle of the night and I couldn’t ignore it.Â
Here are my basic level design layouts for Number One. Maybe I need some sort of code name for my games? Since there’s no title yet...maybe I’ll just call it “Space 1″. Since it...it takes place....in space...whatever!
It’s not 100% complete but it’s a rough draft and I’m proud of it! I’m thinking it’s going to be a side-scroller 2D kind of game.Â
I still want to go into more design details with what I have since I used 0 reference. I’ll probably end up making a pinterest board for my design references but I’m mostly going for a space station look. The station is located on the moon...somewhere. Also, if it’s not obvious, I don’t have anything for my “Lab” area yet. The majority of the game is going to take place there, so not only do I have no idea what it’s gonna look like, but I have to decide on what is going to actually go down in that room.Â
It’s all vague in my head. Which is why I need to iron out the creases in the beginning in order to make some real progress. It’s the best way to go about this imho.Â
I went to the bookstore to get some reference books and briefly debated coding this with C++ or Python. But C++ is more for 3D games and I don’t know what it is about Python but...it seems too easy for me. Like there’s not enough of a challenge to write it like there is for Java/script. I dunno! I just have a personal vendetta against Python, but that’s just me.Â
ANYWAY: here’s my loot. An actual Javascript reference book so I can return my library books (this one is up-to-date anyway), a journal to keep track of my project for this month, and out of sheer procrastination, I made a dice bag for my brand new DnD dice. Why did I get them? Why don’t you mind your own business?Â
I bought my notebook sticker from ENNBi on etsy and colored it with my copic markers. I love their store so much. It’s....so good.
Also inb4 “for dummies book”: coding reference books are VERY expensive. The O’Riley Javascript book is like $60 and I think I’m too much of a newbie baby child to get a big boy reference book. I need practice projects and the dummies books have good ones. If it’s any consultation, my Java reference book is REAL and very amazing. Meanwhile my game design reference book was like $10.
Also here’s my craptop that I’m making all this on. I’ve been meaning to move my previous laptop stickers onto her but...she also doesn’t leave this room so who’s gonna see it?Â
ANYWAY plan for tomorrow: make more progress on resource gathering for getting the level and character design down. I don’t think I need to do much for my little alien creature boy but I definitely need some for my main character, which is an astronaut. And uh...I don’t know what those look like from memory.
Let’s hear it for day 1!Â
I got interviewed by IGDB.com about Scrap Galaxy and Catalope Games. I also talked about #1GAM and some Game Jam projects.
Read it here: What makes a good party game? The guys behind Scrap Galaxy knows!
Got carrot?
It's just emotions
It's really weird.. Ever since I began taking Sertraline, it's like a whole new world I now have to get used to.. Now suddenly I have all these feelings that I don't really know how to deal with.. The anxiety is still there, but now I seem to try to avoid it rather than confront it..
The anxiety that once discouraged me from wasting my life, now seems drowned out by these more pleasant feelings.. It's dangerously easy to just give in to procrastination and not really feel ashamed about it..
I guess now I have to rely more on carrot than stick to get my motivation back..
Another thing that have occupied my mind lately, is an idea for a new fantasy console project.. I'm kinda excited about it and want to just dive right into it, but I've come so far in my 1GAM challenge and I don't want to make a habit of not finishing what I've started.. I only have to make 3 more games before new years to complete the challenge! After that, I can do something more exciting.. :)
hope that's enough carrot to keep me going for now..
A low poly Puzzle / Adventure made in Puzzlescript
Help heroes to escape from the Dungeon in this Low-Poly puzzle adventure! KEYS: Arrows move, X switches heros, R resets the current level, and Z rewinds time!
SOKOGEON was made in PuzzleScript during February 2017 and it’s my second entry for the #1GAM. It's inspired by classics like: Sokoban or Gauntlet.

Let’s start!
Hi, welcome to my devblog. As I have finished my preprototype (at this point I am truly starting prototyping). I want to changelogging and share the progress of my work and ideas about it. So, what I want to do? Based on Godot Engine I am making a city-bulider-like game, about developping a medieval city. Gameplay will be based on card/decision system. Two game jams inspired me to start working: #1GAM and City Jam. Propably I won’t archive first one :)
Gotten a start on shader effects for the interactable props to show which prop the player is currently going to be able to interact with. It still needs a lot of tweaking, especially collider sizes, but a game like this definitely needs some form of selection indicator so I’m stoked to see it working.
Polished up the backlight on the foliage shader, think I’m done with the effects now, time to actually make some proper trees to try it on.
After all that, spent a while tonight converting the shader to an unlit one like the alpaca has, for the sake of using the same BRDF style setup.
After a bit decided maybe it was too harsh looking and went back to the lit version, adding in the option to blend between albedos if required. Now to tidy up the properties for faster usability.
