Olteca + Light || original idea by @scoups4lyfe
The other day I found this excellent post narrating how Olteca’ surroundings directly tell the viewers what’s happening. (Most of what I’m gonna explain comes from Scoups4lyfe’s post btw, please check it out.)
1+2 | He starts out with Aguilera and Julio in the lounge, they’re friends, he’s doing fine. While the three of them rarely sit on the same couch/face the same direction, they’re still a working trio. Olteca is okay.
3+4 | The light is dimmer, coming mostly from the background, he has betrayed his friends and it’s only him and Chameleon. Then the latter dies, so he brings back the cultists to serve him instead. He’s already on the path to Bad End.
5+6 | The mannequins. Truly a breathtaking sight (they’re not). Olteca already has no one left willing to forgive him, only that faceless crowd is left to keep him company. What of Aguilera? She comes bringing light, that’s true. However, he sits with his back to her, implying he isn’t paying attention to that last opportunity to save himself.
7 | Akaishi serves as Olteca’s hope, he’s the blinding light he was looking for. He’s the last human being Olteca can cling to, yet already he’s aware Akaishi and him aren’t gonna work out as the scene ends with the man leaving him without looking back.
8+9 | The only light left is Olteca’s aggressive green. He’s completely alone, although he’s talking to Vail and Akaishi. There is no point in humanity any longer, he wants to burn it to the ground to build a world where he’ll be accepted. Akaishi’s hand slams onto his back in a perfect timing with the flashback of Olteca’s father hitting him. We know Akaishi had been observing him back then, so he’s definitely aware of the impact of such gesture. He also wiggles his fingers in what appears to be anticipation so yeah. He’s not different from Olteca’s father, and by that point, Olteca is perfectly aware he's now useless, thus turning his earlier betrayal toward Aguilera & Julio into a meaningless endeavor.
He already had the acceptance he craved at the start, and gradually destroyed it by wanting ‘the world to be his’ instead.
Congratulations, you have betrayed yourself for nothing, Hatsushiba Makoto!
