Are there mainline folks who preach from the lectionary and still do this?
I've seen a few for sure. And they're the worst ones because it's such this cheesy mix of more serious scripture passages, and then veggie tale puns or something. I've seen Lilian Daniel do this sometimes.

Thanks for the pointers. I've read Pedagogy of the Oppressed so far, and Fanon was recently suggested to me. My next read is Freire's Education for Critical Consciousness. Do you have somewhere specific to suggest starting with concerning bell hooks? Her name pops up all over the place but I'm having a hard time getting a handle on where to begin. She seems to write on a wide variety of topics, but I'm mainly interested with her pedagogical work.
Read Teaching to Transgress (1994) & Teaching Community (2003).
As an educator, do you have any thoughts on Paulo Freire and the critical pedagogy crowd? I'm just now getting into that world and am enjoying Freire so far.
For many of us, Freire was our first entrance into critical pedagogy. I suggest both bell hooks and Freire.
Freire taught me there is no such thing as a neutral education and helped me recognize a vital purpose and focus for thoughts about society and education that I already had formed before reading him. He was responding to Fanon, so you can also read The Wretched of the Earth if you haven’t already.
bell hooks is just as important and because she began publishing while I was in high school, she’s been a consistent part of my life. Freire was a motivator for me. hooks has been a companion.
