I think the scariest part of bird abuse is that it has become normalized; like i mentioned with african greys - plucking happens so often that it is considered to be a "normal" trait of that species; which is wrong - birds do not pluck in the wild; birds by nature only pluck when they are suffering

recently, i've become a lot more critical of the way people within aviculture treat their birds; i've started to recognize things like manhandling, coercion, verbal abuse, etc

people who will grab their birds and force them to roll over - over and over again - chastising them for doing it wrong; people who scream at their birds because they think it's funny (see: umbrella cockatoos ; there are so many videos of people shouting abuse at their birds in 'argument' - which in reality is that the bird is afraid and people are making it even more afraid - eventually pushing it into a rage state)

i mentioned recently that i discovered a user on youtube that not only manhandled the hell out of his bird, but also forced that bird into free flight (outside) despite the fact that the bird was clearly afraid and didn't want to; he continued forcing his sun conure to do this EVEN AFTER the conure went missing for an entire night, drank poisonous water, and almost died; when justifying his abuse, he simply said that "it's the most exhilarating part of having a bird" and "if you want an animal without wings, get a dog"

people forcing budgies to ride ferris wheels and merry-go-round's 

i am terrified of being heckled by a lot of the tumblr community, they say some very saddening things and i am only a small boy :( i’m here for you though, i hope no one is mean to you ahg

i dont honestly think anyone will but i can 100% deal with a few whiny kids when, y'know, I'm in the right.
