Jupiter’s Great Red Spot is an enormous storm that was first documented in 1831, possibly 1665. Nobody knows exactly how long it has been raging on or if it is permanent. It varies in size, but it is large enough for about three Earths to fit inside of it. Jupiter has a very turbulent atmosphere divided into zones and cloud belts. Their different colours are due to a mixture of ammonia crystals and sulfur. Like all other gas giants Jupiter also has a faint ring system around it. But it‘s almost black with particles as small as those in cigarette smoke, which means very hard to observe.
