Back-to-School Orientation

From August 14 to September 2, 1966, students entering 7th grade at Franklin and Lincoln Junior High Schools in Minneapolis participated in an orientation at Camp Wells near Big Lake, MN. The camp included regular camp activities like swimming, boating, and crafts, but also included sessions about school rules, extracurricular activities, and classes they'd be taking during the school year. The orientation was also an opportunity to introduce kids to teachers in an informal atmosphere. The camp was part of the Minneapolis Public Schools’ summer Urban Area Secondary Program, which was aimed at giving educationally and economically deprived children a better chance to succeed in school.

i really liked being there and the people were great, it still short of shocks me that that was probably only about 1/4 of all the new people coming in the fall though

i'm so glad i'm not staying in a dorm though 🙏🏽 like being a 5 minutes walk from your classes is probably amazing (especially for me who might spend up until 12:00am in a studio) but i just don't think i could handle the change. I really want to get familiar with my classmates, especially people who share my major, and the campus, so that i can go from one familiar place to another. Maybe in a year or two i'd move into campus.

I'm also very excited about using college resources. If i'm paying an expensive tuition i want to get my money's worth lol
