I'm applying to college and one of the essay supplements asks to write about how your background is diverse. I want to write about being genderfluid and how my gender changed all the time when I was younger (and now). The problem is that I'm not out yet, and I have my parents look over all my essays before I submit them (and I really need the extra help). I know I would be safe to come out to them, but I'm still nervous and don't want to make it a big deal. Would this be an ok way to come out?
Yes but do be careful. Admissions doesn’t have to say why you were rejected, meaning the admissions team can just decide not to accept you solely because you’re genderfluid and get away with it. No matter how good the school seems to be about trans people, remember that the rest of the staff, professors, president, etc. don’t see your application. It’s just a handful of admissions team people.
