BlackBerry announces Scholarship Programme for Indian Women
BlackBerry is reportedly reaching out to women in India to urge them to apply for the new BlackBerry Scholarship Programme, an initiative designed to inspire women globally to enter and develop careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Led by BlackBerry Global Creative Director Alicia Keys, the BlackBerry Scholarship Programme will offer ten full, four-year university scholarships to outstanding female candidates. The BlackBerry Scholarship Programme is available to women in India and will provide scholarships to outstanding applicants who are seeking degrees at accredited local colleges and universities in the areas of STEM across India. Applications are now open to candidates in India, who are interested in the scholarships, and will close at 2:30 am on June 27, 2013. The scholars will be selected by a panel of inspirational and accomplished women, led by Alicia Keys, who will recruit candidates based on their academic merit and passion for entering the mobile computing industry.
"Women are underrepresented in the fields of science and technology, and we feel strongly that it is time to drive a change. It is important to connect the dots for young women in secondary schools and colleges, and show them that careers in science and technology are within their reach. And when women do land these jobs, it is vital they receive the mentoring and support they need to advance in their careers. I am proud BlackBerry is demonstrating leadership in women's education, both in school and in the workplace, and giving back to its most loyal users in such a profound way," said BlackBerry Global Creative Director Alicia Keys. This Scholarship Programme is the first step in the BlackBerry's long-term commitment and multi-tiered strategy to engage young women at every step of their education from secondary school to college......See More
The program I got into at college is divided into sections by majors, and unfortunately I was told in a letter today that I didn't get into the section I wanted (Life Sciences).
BUT, I'm actually pretty excited about the program I did get into. It relates pop culture, religion, statistics, and other stuff to astronomy. There are also field trips to observatories and such. AHAHIFAKSDHIWQIHDSA:FDS TELESCOPES GUYS!

"Every year, the Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program selects 1,000 talented minority students to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The program provides scholars with personal and professional development through our leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career."

But then I decided last minute that it wouldn't be a good idea.
I told myself that I would apply for the scholars program.
Which worked out perfectly until I found out that the scholars program I am applying to requires a semester of studying abroad.
I am nowhere close to getting my permanent residency status. I can't risk leaving the country anytime before then.
So I let the deadline pass.
And I'm regretting it, even though I am doing myself good in the long run: I won't have to go through further complications regarding my status until I actually receive it.
