What's the difference between the main branch and the experimental branch of SburbSim? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I looked around and couldn't find anything about what the difference was between the two branches. Thanks! I really love your work, I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of all the stuff on your site.
hell yes :) :) :) When there’s active development, stuff will show up first in the experimental branch as we work the kinks out. But since we’re putting effort into SBURBSim 2 (i.e. the general purpose story engine I’m working on in LOSAS) it hasn’t gotten a lot of love lately,so the two branches are the same. There’s an experimental branch for just about everything I do (I just don’t normally advertise it because usually what’s in there is a half finished game). Actually, let me use this an excuse to ramble about the Land of Storytelling and Sorcery real quick.
It’s hella alpha, but it already has a lot of the features we WANTED for SBURBSim but it was way too entrenched to sanely get.
Things like full DollSim support. (Yes that includes faces).
And things like limited two panel animations.
Plus we have simple background music, a fully modular AI system. It’s fun :) It’s more graphics heavy than SBURBSim, so it defaults to having a “homestuck”-esque panel viewport, but once the simulation is over you can view it in “big stupid pile” mode which is nice for sharing.
The basic system we’re gearing up for is having “scenarios” such as SBURB, Hogwartz, Gem Society, Alternia, Segundia, Star Trek AU, etc, you know: basic frameworks for what to expect from a story. Then we’re gonna have you define the dolls for all characters in the story.  Once you got the look and feel you want, its a matter of picking different traits the scenario has to give to each character.
As an example, SBURB Scenario will have Traits like Mind, Knight, Derse, Goldblood, MusicInterest, AthleticInterest, that kind of thing.Â
Without going into too much detail (I know not everyone reading this is Wasted), each trait will effect how the story works and what sorts of thing the character can do.
So yes, you can do dumb-shit like deciding to have a dual-mooned character, how did you know?
Additionally, sufficiently Wasted Observers will be able to discover the means to define their own scenarios and Traits. This’ll be useful if it turns out my headcanons don’t mesh with yours, or if I left out your favorite fan aspect or whatever.  Or you know, if you’re in fandoms I’m not :)
p.s. Yes, LOSAS is the third land of Farragnarok. :) The main scenario for it will tie into the overall plot of that set of games, but by no means is it expected to be ONLY for that. That said, since it is a Light land I would expect the Farragnarok scenario to shed quite a bit of light on things (though I wouldn’t trust the shadows it casts ;) ;) ;) ).
