A gentle smile was Ame’s response to her words. Sayuri was sitting on the step below him, and his fingers were tangled in her hair as he continued to braid it despite the growing dark that was beginning to engulf them. “Sometimes,” he began, reaching over to turn on a small lantern beside him for more light, though there was also light shining out from the glass door behind them too. “Feelings just spill out through our eyes because you become so full of them and they don’t know where else to go. It happens to me, too.” When he was finished braiding her hair, he got up and sat beside her instead. “I think it’s stranger if you never cry, than if you do cry sometimes.” The chill in the air was beginning to become worse, more like it was biting at their skin than simply nipping at it instead. “The stars are pretty but I think that it’s time to head inside.” He offered the girl a small smile as he stood up, helping her up as well before they headed inside. His mother had made them a hot pot, and his family welcomed them both back inside of the home.
