Rules: list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard - they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.
1. The Little Princess
2. Harry Potter.. series? I’m gonna count it all as one
3. Brave New World- I hated it. but I agreed with it more than 1980 whatever.
4. Calvin and Hobbes comics
5. this one book that I never remembered the title of about a doll that comes to life and can sew her own clothes and her owner who stole her from a garage sale and thus has to live with her bad life choices
6. there was a sequel for that doll book, where the owner’s old doll comes to life and tries to take revenge on the new doll for stealing her happiness and destroying her life. very fun.
7. Privilege (by Kate Brian) because it’s always fun when a sociopath breaks herself out of prison and steals someone else’s identity and ends up murdering a bunch of other hapless teens
8. The Trickster’s Choice (by Tamora Pierce)
9. Trickster’s Queen (its sequel)
10. that other doll book where the dolls were all alive- except for the dolls who have committed TERRIBLE CRIMES that were frozen for eternity.
eventually i became so paranoid about my dolls coming to life and attacking me that i had to take all my stuffed animals and put them in a storage box and then lock them away in my closet. they stayed there for the next 10 years or so because if anything would engender homicidal intentions it would be unjust imprisonment in cruel and usual conditions and I wasn’t going to be risking shit.
(I eventually freed them from their prison because I needed the room in my closet for shoes. now they are on top of my desk, where they would really have to struggle to get down from if they wanted to murder me or whatever. also i as a college student am not at home for the majority of the year so i’m still safe.)
