VFX IS NOT A COMMODITY: Backstage At The Academy Awards Bill Westenhofer Finishes His Speech
'Best Visual Effects' Oscar recipient Bill Westenhofer completes the acceptance speech the Jaws theme had cut him off from delivering during the live show:
"What I was trying to say up there is that, uh, it is.. it is ironic that at a time when visual effects movies are dominating the box office that visual effects companies are struggling. And that, I wanted to point out that we are not technicians. Visual effects is not just a, uh, commodity that's being done by people pushing buttons. We're.. we're artists. And that if something.. if we don't find a way to fix the business model we may start to lose some of the artistry that.. if anything Life Of Pi shows that we are artists and not just technicians.
