Such a small storm surge is of course nothing against the big storm surges that have taken place on the North Sea coast in the past centuries. Even though past hurricanes like Xavier (2013) were one of the more recent events and are still in many people's minds, it is nothing compared to the February 1962 storm surge, which damaged more than 400 km of dykes and caused the loss of many lives. Thankfully the dike and flood barrier system has improved considerably since then, so that the personal fear of the individual decreases steadily, even if the dangers due to global warming increase the more. What a surreal situation, it is time that the increasing number of natural catastrophes finally wakes us up and makes us change. --- Aber so eine kleine Sturmflut ist natürlich nichts gegen die großen Sturmfluten die sich an der Nordsee Küste in den vergangen Jahrhunderten ereignet haben. Auch wenn vergangene Orkane wie Xavier (2013) eines der jüngeren Ereignisse war und vielen Leuten noch im Gedächtnis Sitzt, ist sie im Vergleich nichts gegen die Februars Sturmflut 1962, bei der über 400km Deich beschädigt wurden und viele Leute ihr Leben verloren. Zum Glück hat sich seit dem das Deich- und Flutwehrsystem seitdem stark verbessert, so dass persönliche Angst des einzelnen stätig sinkt, auch wenn die Gefahren durch die Erderwärmung steigen.
