Merlin is doing great to today. He's full of life and enjoying the sunshine. It's almost easy for me to forget that he has major health problems...but I know he could take a turn for the worse at any time. I have something to say to well-meaning people who have encouraged me to go to low-cost spay/neuter clinics instead of the CSU Vetrinary Teaching Hospital. I deeply appreciate the compassion and dedication of people who work at low-cost clinics. That said, several vets have told me that CSU is the place to go, and I have chosen to trust the doctors who have already thoroughly examined Merlin. Why CSU? They are rated 3rd best vet school in the country. Because they are a teaching hospital, their mission is education, research and innovation. They *want* tough cases like this...cuz, science. They see every kind of animal, from lions to friggin' sharks. I am confident Merlin will be safe in their hands. Merlin's condition is rare, and several very competent vets have already told me that this is over their heads. This is major surgery, and my kitty deserves the best. While grants may be available, I won't know until Tuesday...so I'm keeping the goal where it is for now. I'm doing everything within reason to contain the costs, but there are zero guarantees, and I want to give Merlin as much financial "cushion" as possible. Thank you, everyone, for respecting my decision about where to take Merlin. CSU or bust!
