So I started watching/listening to The Weather & Climate Livestream on YouTube this morning (it's a public holiday here, so I'm free today). They are doing a 100-hour stream in protest to the cuts to science that the US government is doing right now. And it's awesome.
There was a man (whose name escaped me) that has done research on the fact that there seems to be more lightning directly above shipping lanes in the oceans, and they figured out it's to do with the particles that ships emit. And it so happened that the International Maritime Organisation ordered a change in fuel during their research so they could by chance test to see what happens to the lightning if you change the fuel, and the amount of lightning did decrease after the emissions changed to have less particles.
There was another researcher talking about sea ice in the polar region, which was super interesting to me since I live like 60 miles south from the Arctic Circle, and, yeah, we are seeing the effects of climate change all the time up here, in all seasons.
But yeah. Super recommend the stream. They have to change the link every once and a while because YouTube limits how long livestreams you can have, so search for the account, it's called The Weather & Climate Livestream, and hop over to the live tab. As of this posting they have been going for 20 hours, so there is plenty more time to go, check it out.
