thoughts about the last 2 sans streams
So, so many. Most of those thoughts include putting Itzsans through a shredder, but it's okay. These past two streams have given a lot more information, and have also given more basis to some previous thoughts that I've had.
Sans is incredibly diplomatic (nicer way of saying he's a snake), he uses a shifting narrative to support his reasoning and is consistently striving to maintain good relations with both sides; and he's been doing this from the start. I can reference him doing this while fighting Pinity with Bingey pre-energy games for Auratus. Almost immediately afterwards, he goes into a vc with Pinity to assure him that âyes i was fighting you, but if we got auratus I wouldâve given it back.â(Vod). I can also reference Sans selling Nem out to Wyll, and then literally that day solarflare is formed (Vod). More recently, Sans plans out how heâd lie to Hazel about the Quakitus IOU while still being in solarflare and considering her his friend. (vod)
The 7/15 stream made this practice of Sans a lot more apparent. Some particularly interesting comms from Stormz explains it pretty well. âStop giving yourself some cop way out to try and fill the mold ⌠donât try and find a suitable answer for everyone... Tell me why you did it, not why you want us to believe you did it.â Hazel also commented on how Sans was playing dumb and beating around the bush.
I mentioned this in another post, but Sans above all else wants to be needed. These recent streams gave more insight into that by giving perspective on how he views relationships. He views them less as âfriendshipâ, and more as an attachment.
I could probably delve a whole lot deeper into Sans and his mindset surrounding attachment. But to put it simply, sans wanting to be needed leads to him getting attached to anyone who indicates that they need him and gives him purpose. In the past, he was attached to Stormz and Dumb because they gave him purpose; but once he was kicked out of Monarchy and was able to find a new purpose with Q, he was able to leave behind his attachment to Monarchy.
Similarly, Sans was attached to Hazel because she was all he had; and being a good solarflare alliance team member gave him purpose. Sans said that he didn't necessarily view her as a friend and more so as someone he needed to talk to âto help himselfâ (48:13 7/15 Stream) His willingness to sacrifice the connection, and his diminishing attachment to her is inversely proportional to his increasing attachment to Quakitus.
In the 7/14 stream, Sans claims to be attached to Q. He says that âIf it's already decided that its [iou] gonna ruin my life, might as well try and keep one friend. Even if it ends up being you.â His lack of care for himself, acceptance of his fate, and numbness to what Quakitus is doing highlights his desperation for connection, solidifying his attachment to Quakitus.
Finally, going back to bliss!Sans being a snake; he's a liar too. Almost everything he said in the 7/15 stream just wasnât true. He gave so many different answers to different people on why he signed the books, why he cares about what q thinks, and why heâs doing any of this.
One of the âreasonsâ (30:24 7/15 stream) that he told Stormz, Hazel, and Nem for wanting to prove Q wrong is that, according to Quakitus, he could easily go get his friends back. Because Quakitus told him that he could, Sans tried to join bunny buddies and failed. Sans says that Quakitus then held his failure over his head, and taunted him about it. These are all mostly true events, but they happened in a completely different order, with different context, and were generally unrelated.
Sans also leaves a lot of things out (which he does a lot) most notably he doesnât mention that Q herself assured Sans that his life would be ruined, it isn't just a possibility as Hazel and Stormz believe. Another moment when Sans omits the truth is when he is âasking Stormz for helpâ. Stormz has a lot wrong about the contract and sans just. Says nothing. Sans corrected Hazel when she was incorrect about things regarding the contract only minutes before, but tells Stormz âI completely forgot what it wasâ instead of explaining how the âBestiesâ contract works and just moves on. There was also a very noticeable tone shift during that conversation seemingly out of nowhere. When Hazel tells Sans a few minutes before that he does in fact have people to rely on, his response is âI'd be proving that he's rightâ (57:10 7/15 stream). His only motivation is to prove Quakitus wrong, and any external help would get in the way of that; so in that case why would he go to Stormz of all people? Why would he give Stormz such a seemingly important document on top of all that?
Overall, in these streams Sans lies to an extent where it is very difficult to determine what he truly believes and thinks. His lies always were diplomatic, conflicting and never giving a solid picture. Sans doesnât view his relationships as friendships, but as attachment and a means for him to find purpose.
