How would you write Romanogers in an Anastasia AU?
Ooh. Thatās a hard one because, confession time: Iāve only watched that movie once and it was way long ago, so Iām not familiar with that story or the real life story itās mostly based on. But. If I were to write an Anastasia-inspired au then Iād write it like a twist on my royalĀ āverse: maybe Steveās parents are protectors of the crown, so Princess Natasha and Steve grow up as childhood friends, but maybe a terrorist or someone who has a grudge against King Howard Stark comes after him and his family during a ball, and Queen Maria manages to sneak Prince Tony and Princess Natasha away and into a different country. Instead of the amnesia route, though, Iād do a lessĀ āfantasyā kind of a twist and make it so that Steve and Natasha donāt recognize each other, not only because they spend decades apart and only vaguely remember their childhood at the palace together, but also because Nat dyes her hair blonde and Steve went through a dramatic change from the scrawny boy who she caused mischief with in the palace halls.
And⦠thatās as far as Iād get in terms of it being Anastasia-inspired. But then of course, Iād have to have the big not-reunion scene where we know they know each other when theyĀ āmeetā again but they donāt, and cue them falling in love with each other and remembering their connection that way, and Steve vowing to bring Natasha (and Tony!) back home. Maybe heād succeed somehow, and restore the Starks as the crown family, or maybe heād simply reunite Tony and Natasha with Howard and Maria and theyād all start a newer, quieter life together again in peace.
