Biochemistry scares me as well. 🥲 I can remember the classification of fifty different protists, but the moment you ask me to explain glycolysis my brain short circuits lollll. I'm taking micro and molecular next semester, and I'm excited for the micro part but terrified for the molecular part. What would you say is the most fun/interesting class you've taken in college so far?

Education is so fun! I always thought it would be cool to start a youtube channel where I talk about behavioral ecology, but I'm a huge procrastinator so I've never gotten around to starting it. 😔 What would you say your dream job in biology would be?

Annnd now for the question of they day: They say you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but do you think an album cover plays a role in how much you like an album? Are there any albums with covers you love that you hate musically, or vice versa?

The most interesting class I'd have to say was probably genetics. it was by no means my favorite, it was super hard, our professor got arrested halfway thru the semester and the replacements didnt rly have time for us, but the topics we covered were just such fun to learn. my favorite class of all time was invertebrate zoology! i took it as part of a program where you go off campus for the whole semester and spend 16 weeks doing fieldwork, which was super awesome, but i also just love the topic and our professor was super super passionate about it. like oh my god yeah i can name the phylums orders classes but dont ask me about the creb cycle 😂😂😂 other than that i loved evolutionary biology, marine ecology, and coming out of left field but i LOVE geographic information sciences. like computer mapping.

DUDEEEE YOU SHOULD DO THAT!!!! im trying to get into smtg similar but with comic books!! i want to write and draw learning tools to get people engaged with natural history and science advocacy!! im super passionate about it, putting together a pitch as we speak! if i could do anything i would work in the field as like a contractor biologist, write comics, and have a gis analyst job to pay the bills. then when i feellike it ill go get my doctorate in evolutionary biology. As my heart still changes overnight.

I listened to King Crimson's discography (semi) chronologically, and it seemed to be a pretty good way to go about it! It's cool to see how both lineup changes and shifts in the music landscape affected the band's sound overtime.

Omg dinoflagellates!! Blorbo from my bio 102 lab! Those and radiolarians were my favorite because they looked the coolest lolll. What made you become interested in jellyfish and anemonies? Also, are you interested in the more micro/molecular side of biology? :0

Going into college, my dream job was to work as a collections manager at a natural history museum, but now I'm feeling more driven towards research in either systematics behavior ecology. Right now I'm doing research at my university in phylogenetics and I'm having so much fun! :D

Annnnd to end this off I have silly music related question: If you could put a musician in a jar with a twig and a leaf, who would you choose?

ohhhhh ive always loved jellies since before i can remember. maybe when i first went to the long beach aquarium (hashtag california) as a little 6yo carl. then when inwas older i watched this cool documentary about the toxins and stinging cells auhh like its just cool theyre cool. i would def say im into the micro side, not in the cellular pathways way but in a form and function of organelles and microorganisms way. like phytoplankton and other microscope work. im terrified of biochemistry tho like its so interesting to me but i would not want to go into it 😭😭😭

and THAT IS AWESOMEEEE!!!! follow your dreams!!!! i really want to get into informal education as well. being a jelly taxonomist is a lifelong dream of mine but right now i think what i really want to do is bridge the gap between academia and the public. i think science advocacy is essential and too many people are in either side of their own bubble. but AUUGHHH PHYLOGENY IS SOOO COOL im glad youre having fun!!

Nice, wonderful to meet another Zevon fan! His work kinda hit me like a freight train; one day, something snapped in me, and I just decided to go through his discography! I fully agree with you; I love his self-titled! Some really heavy hitting songs on there, very very few I skip. Favorite tracks off that album for you?

From Zevon? Hmm... God, that's really tough! It's between his self-title, Excitable Boy, and Sentimental Hygiene! Any other albums from him you like?

Omg I love Yes, PG era Genesis, Renaissance, and Rush as well! I've always wanted to get more into Strawbs and Kansas, but I never got around to it. What songs by them would you recommend? I remember a few years ago I listened to Hero and Heroine and really liked the titular track and Round and Round.

My all time favorite prog band is King Crimson, and my fave song of theirs is The Sheltering Sky so if you haven't heard it I'd highly recommend it! Also you brought up that you want to get into more niche stuff. My taste isn't super obscure but some more underappreciated songs I'd recommend are Pilgrims Progress by Greenslade (symphonic prog), Winter Wine by Caravan (Canterbury scene), and Joan by Art Bears (avant-prog).

I'm also majoring in biology! :D I'd love to hear about your favorite marine invertebrates.

OUHHGGGGG okay . 1) strawbs hero and heroine is one of my top albums. round and round is also my favorite track. if youd like to get into more strawbs i recommend the album 'ghosts', esp the opening track. for kansas, please check out the first album. fave tracks are apercu and journey from mariabronn.

i have heard of greenslade but havent listened to much, have not heard of art bears but i will be checking out. but i freaking LOVE caravan. my favorite albums are girls who grow plump in the night (fave tracks the dog) and cunning stunts (fave track show of our lives). winter wine also a fantastic track on a fantastic album. canterbury scene is a lot of fun, if you enjoy it id also recommend the album 'hope' by klaatu.

fave bands! im a huge proghead. ive been trying to discover a lot of niche stuff that never played on the radio, rn im pretty into strawbs and renaissance. however im a lifelong rush megafan. im also really into earlier yes and peter gabriel era genesis. and kansas. do you have any prog recs? i can tell ur an elp fan (also a top pick of mine, fantastic taste btw)

outside of music, im a bachelors student getting my marine bio degree (almost graduated!) and i draw comics! i have a few minor hobbies like crochet and crafting, and collecting semi niche vinyl records. interests tho.... well im a marine invertebrate aficionado

My week was…interesting. Had a really shitty conversation with my boss Monday afternoon that was the absolute last straw and while I thought I might last until June and the end of our school year I’m now actively working on the resume and reading through a zillion job listings so I can get out ASAP. :/
